Fixing my hack offense Topic

I've been looking through some of the team statistics trying to figure out where I have the most to improve on.  I don't have the worst offense in the league overall, but it's below average when comparing some of the typical stats.  As I was going through some of the extended statistics, I think I found my main weakness.  I have a bunch of hackers.

I'm dead or 2nd to last in several stat categories about halfway through the season: K, BB, and NP and NP/PA. I'm assuming this means my guys are going up there swinging away at anything that moves.  They're making decent contact, but they're just not working the count and making the pitcher work.

Is that what you guys would come away with looking at those stats? Am I not paying attention enough to a certain rating? I'm assuming that would be batting eye.  Does the Patience rating have anything to do with that? Or is that only about promotions and that sort of thing.

Look at which teams in your world that are leading the stat categories that you want to improve in, and see what ratings it is that they have in common.

If you're striking out a lot, not drawing walks or working the count, your contact and batting eye need help.

Actually the team has the 3rd fewest strikeouts in the league. That probably wasn't clear. So I guess that would mean batting eye is the biggest culprit.

Ahhhh, I just found the Franchise Rankings under the Reports category.  Yep, as expected, my average batting eye ranking is 3rd to last in the league.

Question: Do those rankings average *everyone* on the roster? Pitchers and Batters for every category? That would seem to make anything but rough comparisons pretty useless for most ratings.

It is sortable by Starting line-up, All Postion players, bench, 40 man, Starting pitchers, and bullpen I think... Oh and all pitchers. That is also for the level you selected such as ml, aaa, ect.

Yeah you're offense is in bad shape..

You're
15th : CON
20th : POW
31st : vsL

What I like to do is create a composite of targets for ratings by position. So when I joined Moodlight lats year one of the first things I did was do an analysis of the playoff teams and what their position players offensive ratings were accross the board, by position.

For example:
Pos Contact Power Vs L Vs R Eye
C 66 66 63 63 61
1b 77 70 67 68 80

I also run the sama analysis for top 3 starters, backend starters, top relievers and lesser relievers.

It gives me a baseline to target while I am making moves as I learn the feel of the league and determining who to keep and who cast off.  For example, I ended up with a catcher who was 70/76/65/72/76 - and good defensivly.  In some worlds I've played that catcher is OK but not someone you are committed too.  In moonlight he is a pretty good player.  A player good enough to be a good regular on a championship caliber team.

I don't worry about how I rank vs. average but against the team I want to be competing against.

That's an interesting way to go about it.    I've looked at the team I take and asked "What do I have to do to get into the top 10 in hitting, fielding and pitching?" and worked from there.   I figure, if I'm top 10 in RS, RA and my convoluted fielding standards, I'm a playoff team.

mrauseo,

That catcher you describe as "ending up with" is a .265-ish-.335-.475 player (unless he's incredibly slow) who plays good defense.  In what league is a good defensive .810 guy just an OK catcher?

I have a .304-.383-.471 guy who has made 5 All-Star teams in 7 seasons.  He's a very good player.  But he's only 66-61-51 defensively.

If your .810 guy is very good defensively then he's not much worse than my All-Star at .854, assuming he has pretty good durability.
