How Many States? Topic

How many States do you buy in FSS, or how much do you typically spend on FSS.  I feel compelled to at least buy 7 states to get the 20% discount.  Just curious, any thoughts???

For me, it depends on A. what states have potential fits, B. where my school is and C. how much $$ I have.  It could range from 1-25.

At DIII, I did a search of 2-300 miles and saw where the bulk of the recruits were from and scouted those states only.

At DIII, I generally only scout my home state, I only use NJ schools in DIII so it's a pretty deep pool.

In DII, I'll branch out a little and use all states with in 200 miles  if it cheaps enough, I don't like to spend more than 10% of my budget.

In DI,  I pretty much do all states with 200 miles.

If I have 3 openings, I may buy 5 states.  If I have 5 openings, I may purchase 8 states.  But that depends on how many recruits are there. At DIII, I can't afford to scout more than one large state.

Sometimes, I do a tally.  Say, I need a PG.  I do a search for under 100 miles and write down how many PGs (including potential dropdowns) are in each state. Then i expand it to 200 miles and write down how many are within 100-200 miles from my school. I repeat it for 300 and 400 miles.  That gives me an idea of which states to recruit for that position.

even in DI i tend to recruit no more than 5 states.... texas, oklahoma, arkansas and louisiana are all within 300 miles.... and that's as far as i usually go out for recruits.

the less states i scout the better - i'd rather save the cash
