So, I signed a guy who had great ratings but with WE 7 because I figured I would be okay with just staying close to what he starts with

Then I had an idea - what if I red shirt him?  Now, his WE will go to 1 but that isnt much of a change

He was a five star player - will he leave???

don't think he will, but I think the risk is if he was going to leave after his Soph. year, then maybe he's one-and-done even after he is R/S.  If you have plenty of depth for this season, I'd probably give it a shot and cross my fingers.

im not sure i understand the rationale behind redshirting a guy that will not improve any more with the redshirt than he will without it.....do you just not have room to play him this season or what?

the theory would be that he is going to be slow to get his hoop IQ up - with an extra year of even slow learning, his hoop IQ (which only goes up, does not decline in offseason) could get to an acceptable level....maybe

If you're going to do it, you might as well leave him off the depth chart in the hopes he eventually accepts the RS without the drop.  Not a huge deal either way, but no downside.
