Errrrr, these sort of contradict one another:
"4 bucks is 4 bucks. I look to take on replacement jobs because they usually have a strong chance of finishing fourth."
"Even though it's only $5, I'm happy because they acknowledged the goof. It means more than just the money."
Different situations.
One is a small amount of money for basically nothing, that adds up over time, especially when you buy a 10-pack.
The italics in the other one were for you, BTW. In the second situation, the money, small as it was, made their apology mean more than just words.
