Hit Rate vs. OAV Topic

How does hit rate differ from OAV?  My guess is that hit rate has something to do with the defense behind a pitcher.  Would hit rate be a deal breaker when looking at one pitcher vs. another, or is the stat irrelevant?

Hit rate isn't used in the "event tree" used to determine what happens during a plate appearance.

I don't ever look at it but that doesn't mean it's worthless.
