Lol, every other might even be an understatement.

how far do the other east coast 1 & 2 seeds travel for their first round games? this year it looks like Cuse to Pittsburgh is by far the furthest. Omaha for KU and Mizzou, Louisville for UK, Gboro for UNC and Duke, Pittsburgh for OSU, and Columbus for MSU. None of those are exactly massive road trips, and none are going to be hostile arenas.

to boot, I'm not sure Duke likes to be in the same spot as UNC, because their crowd tends to be larger, and is obviously anti-Duke.

If someone wants to do past history on this stuff, by all means do it and list it, but don't just spout it off and assume it's either right or unfair.

Actually, it's  EVERY  year!  North Carolina is 31-1 in NCAA games played instate. The last time they didn't make the Sweet 16 was in 2006 when George Mason defeated them in Dayton

2011-  Charlotte
            No. Carolina and Duke both played there

2010-  Charlotte
            No. Carolina and Duke both played

2009- Greensboro
           Both played again

2008- Raleigh
          North Carolina played in Raleigh, then in Greensboro for the regional.. Final Four and never got on a plane

2007-  Winston-Salem
           North Carolina played two games

2006  Greensboro
            Duke played in Greensboro

2005  Charlotte
         Duke and North Carolina both played there.

did anyone notice how the top 16 seeds almost matched with the actual RPI?

seed    RPI's
 1  =    1,   2,   3,   4
 2  =    5,   6,   7,  10
 3  =    8,   9, 11,  15
 4  =   13, 14, 17, 23

just Wichita State (5-seed) and Memphis (8-seed) had top 16 RPI and didn't get a top 4 seed.
Indiana (17) and Wisconsin (23) getting those # 4's instead.

Iona is very deserving of that seed. i know they lost early in the MAAC tourney but honestly, they were one of the best mid majors out there.  I predict they beat BYU by 20

between my memory and 5 seconds of internet research, i can prove this at least partially wrong. In 2010 UNC was in the NIT, thus didn't play in the Charlotte NT games... where is #1 UK playing again?

;)

Wronoj, I get that you're a UNC fan, that's cool. But you can't deny it's a little ridiculous how often Duke and UNC are getting home games.

wronoj, you're correct.   No. Carolina was in the NIT that year.  But, I assure you, even if they were in the First Four play-in game, the NCAA would let them play in Charlotte rather than Dayton.

Next season will be different, though. The closest site to North Carolina is in Lexington.  They haven't picked the East regional site yet, but  are leaning towards Madison Square Garden

change of subject, but NT related:

Butler is interested in moving to the Atlantic 10, replacing Temple who is going to the Big East. Not only would it be a step up for Butler, but  also would renew rivalries with nearby Dayton , St.Louis, and Xavier.   Those 3 schools left the Midwestern (now Horizon Conf.) for the Atlantic 10 in the early 90's.

yes, of course i know we (and duke) get to play close to home a lot. all i'm saying is that the 1 & 2 seeds always get the closest first round games, and the fact that they are both often 1s and 2s has a ton to do with good sites. There are lots of good spots between DC and ATL, and they will all feel like home games for UNC and Duke (*unless MD or GT is there, too, which just doesn't happen that often).

2010 Duke Jacksonville (no NC site)
2008 Regional was CLT, not GBO (not that it matters)

and al, don't you think it's likely that they did that next year (no more southern sites) because the F4 is in ATL?

That would actually be awesome for Butler, and a good deal for the A-10, too. I'd love to see it happen...

I'm glad to see Belmont in the Ohio Valley, too.  Their games with Murray State will be great basketball

i agree with the conspiracy. especially with duke - it seems their final 4 path is the easiest EVERY time they get a one seed. and sometimes when they get a 2. but the NCAA needs a poster team... a poster rivalry even... so they are gunning for a duke/unc championship every year!
