Are minutes played proportional to improvement? Topic

Is this fact? More minutes a player plays, the more he progresses? I ask because I just took over Bemidji St, I inherited a pretty good senior SG who I'd like to set at 'Getting Tired' even though we probably won't win that much this year, I'd like to compete. His backup is a freshman I recruited with low cores, but high potential in 5 categories. He'll be starting for sure next season-- my question-- will I lose a lot of development this year if he plays maybe 12-15 PPG? I'll be able to recoop those slower gains in his future seasons, correct?

Thanks!

I don't think the word "proportional" is a correct description, but there is definitely a correlative relationship of some sort.

12-15 isn't bad at all for a freshman.  If you can sneak him some starts, that could help his WE some as well.

Thanks guys.

My main question is -- if he doesn't play that much this season, it won't prevent him from reaching max ratings, correct? It will only slow him down, but he'll still get there?

Of course it depends on how well you work the practice plan, but his work ethic is good so I don't see a problem.

Well.  The more minutes, the more WE improvement, the more ratings improvement.

WRONG. while pt does improve we, and that will affect improvement, pt has a direct impact on improvement (i.e., independent of the WE improvement).

Not noticable for me.

What I've observed supports jtt8355's post for the most part.  If PT didn't have an effect, redshirts would gain a lot more than the 20-40 points I normally see during their RS seasons.

The actual formula for improvement seems to be some combination of PT and WE.  Starting can also help.

I understand that PT directly affects improvement, and I thought it was starts that affected WE much more than playing time does, which has the bank-shot effect of faster improvement.
