i know sometimes it just happens, but... Topic

i realize that i'm looking at this through a biased lense, but anyone explain how we lost this game?

boxscore: http://whatifsports.com/hd/GameResults/BoxScore.aspx?gid=8008324

my team: http://whatifsports.com/hd/TeamProfile/Default.aspx?tid=13362

opponent's team: http://whatifsports.com/hd/TeamProfile/Default.aspx?tid=13321

we were superior in ath, spd, per, lp, iq (off and def) and bh (i bring this up bc we both play press). the two factors that i see in opponent's favor were sta and that i played a +1. the former should have balanced out since we both played uptempo and my backups are better than his. the latter was a startegy to offset his guard who doesn't necessarily shoot 3's, but handles the bulk of his team's scoring. plus, my c's were superior to his, so (i didn't think that) the minor shift should have had an adverse impact.

any other thoughts?

16 - 30 on your free throws.  29 - 41 on his, for one.  If you look before the intentional fouling started and take just those FT's, you would have been almost even.

yeah, but fouls are a function of def rating, iq, ath, spd, fatigue and positioning. should we really have been committing so many fouls early on (e.g., 5 fouls in the 1st 5 minutes; 16 fouls in 1st half)?

Personally I'd be pretty annoyed about losing that one.  But like you said, sometime's it happens.  I'd just chalk it up as a game you didn't play your best for whatever reason.

i think you got bit by the "away team" bug... your guys shot terribly along with the fouls committed. i hate terrible FG% games... i think that says it all for this matchup... 50% to 41% ... you even outrebounded him and still shot terribly.

JTT, this is your post from a thread that Cornfused started.  Please note the bolded section and remember, these were your own words.  Sometimes it happens.......

in addition to the +/-, you have to take into consideration that iq plays a role in reb. 5 out of your 6 top rebounders are underclassmen and 3 of them are boasting C+ or less iq's in your off/def sets. imho, your team should have been the superior rebounding team statistically, but stats, irl or ihd, do not translate linearally. as a result, you can have a lesser team do better statistically.

yeah, i know. "sometimes it happens" were also my words (title to this thread). the reason i started this forum - and maybe it wasn't expressed clearly, is that i had the better team. the gp from both teams should have translated into a win for us. but, i lost. when i look @ the box score, i'm looking at it with a built in bias. was wondering whether anyone had an objective perspective that would translate into "here's why you lost" other than, hey, these things happen. if its the latter (i.e., just one of those RNG flukes), i know its part of the game. but if another coach looks at this and says 'jtt, here's what you could have done different', i'm open to listening and would welcome the advice!
