Does putting the redshirt on hurt you? Topic

So I just put a redshirt on a guy in the cycle before signing, and then the team I was battling with for him showed back up on him.  How much does putting the redshirt on a guy diminish your standing with the player?  I have never seen this aspect discussed.  I knew he would take a redshirt, that is not the question.

Is it worth a home visit?  More?

get any recruit that doesn't want a RS won't sign with you. That's been my experience.

The only time I "inform of redshirt" any more is if I want him to stop considering me (so I don't look vulnerable to cherry-picking by having too many players considering me before signings).

I have had remarkable luck getting players to take a redshirt after they're signed, though.  I hold them out of exhibition games and keep trying until they finally take it without a WE drop.  It's only not worked maybe twice that I remember.

I don't know a numerical value of how much the "inform" hurts but whenever I do 10 home and a campus visit at the same time that overcomes it.

Thanks jennings for thinking my question through.  I have never had to consider this fine point of numerical value until now.  I am in two battles, so all money counts, and I don't really want the guy without the redshirt.

I don't know exactly, but definitely more than a HV.

Ethan, cal is playing at high DI and the ability to RS and how you might approach it is different there.

Thanks girt.  I just took the redshirt off and got a new scholarship message, the cryptic "can't say yes" right now.  I didn't add any more money, and I think it is the more positive one than the previous scholarship message when I put it on.  Of course I do not know what money is being spent on the other end, and now I am stuck with him knowing I will either redshirt or not for sure.

I never inform them.  More than not they will take the redshirt if you don't play them.  I've never had one not take a redshirt if they haven't gotten in a game by the 20 game mark.

I've had guys refuse the redshirt all season long after not playing a second. Seem like I used to have more luck getting guys to redshirt. Lately they only way they will take one for me is before signings. I usually do 3-4 HV or a CV and that sings them back, usually in the same cycle. I'll get the "you crazy" mail and the last mail will be the  "ready to sign" type of mail the same cycle.

Again, DI is different in this respect.

I never inform of redshirt without throwing 4-5 HV's at them in the same cycle.  I, like axeme, have had guys refuse the redshirt all season without playing a single minute so I think it's worth it to try to lock them into the redshirt before the season starts if at all possible.  It obviously depends on the player, but 4-5 works quite often and it keeps you from getting knocked off for a cycle.

I don't inform if I 'm in a battle, I just don't feel that any negative recruiting value is a good thing in a battle. I have informed a few other times though, sent along with 3-4 HVs for kids I wasn't in battles for.
