Pitching a starter in spring training Topic

Does it really help a pitcher to pitch in Spring training games?  In other words.  If i sit a starting pitcher during spring training.  Will it effect his numbers during the regular season?  Thanks

He may not experience any ratings bumps and might even experience a decrease in his ratings. This depends upon his age, make up ratings, coaches, etc.

Thanks Hynotoad.  I am mainly thinking about vets who have already reached their max's.  Usually I will have my starting pitchers make one or two starts and then sit them.  I remember a few seasons ago one of the other teams had their ace go down in a spring training game.

I had CS answer a question about spring training once and they responded that it was games played that was a factor, not innings pitched or at-bats. I thought that was a bit surprising. With that in mind, I've been more likely to have my vet pitchers pitch often but for short periods of time, just to make sure they don't get hit with a penalty. And the same goes for the young guys, to get them in as many games as possible.

That actually makes sense.  I remember durng the regular season once.  I had a guy who was coming in as a defensive replacement (and platoon player) and he actually increased in ratings the same as the guys who were playing everyday.
