js is speaking as a bitter St. John's fan. But Jarvis does have significant name recognition and a good network -- much, much stronger on both ends than any coach at an FAU-caliber program would normally have. If some no name coach is at FAU, the kid doesn't sign there.

And the Richie Parker stuff is reallly, really extenuating circumstances.

Point is, almost every nice recruit that ends up at a school like that is due to some extenuating circumstances.

Jarvis was never a respected recruiter.  The only top recruits he ever signed were Omar Cook and Elijah Ingram.  One of those guys ended up God knows where after one season and the other ended his career at New Mexico State after filming an out-of-work flight attendant/stripper's extortion attempt back in 2003.

Jarvis may have a reputation in the recruiting ranks, but it's not necessarily a good one.  High profile, maybe.

The only point re: Jarvis is that he is a bigger name, higher profile, more connected coach than 99% of the guys at that level, and that's what gives that team a shot to sign a guy that other teams at that level would have zero chance at.

Don't know who side this plays more to, but Mike Jarvis was the only DIV I coach to offer me a walk-on (with GW) after I dislocated my ankle the previous year.  He does seem like a good guy though.
