Former ineligible trying to gain 5th year Topic

I have a Sr who's a former ineligible. From the stated rules, he'll need a 2.7 or higher cumulative GPA to earn the possibility of a 5th season. The trouble is that he has a cumulative 2.1 starting this season, and by my calculations, the highest possible cumulative GPA he can reach after this season is just over 2.6 (with the very generous assumption he gets a 4.0 this season, and if his current GPA is closer to 2.149 than 2.1). Does anyone know if maybe the stated rule is incorrect? More precisely, might it be possible to have less than a 2.7 and still qualify for a 5th year? I'm assuming the answer is "no," but I wanted to check with anyone who might know otherwise. Thanks for your help.

From the Knowledge Base:

At DI schools, the player will only have 3 years of eligibility (depending on their collegiate gpa, they may be granted a 4th year of eligibility if they maintain a 2.7 cumulative GPA or higher) - in both situations, if they choose to play their 4 year of eligibility they will be playing as 5th year Seniors. At DII schools, the player will have 4 years of eligibility. In both situations, they will be eligible to play beginning with their sophomore year, assuming they have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher after their freshman year. .

If I'm reading this correctly, D1 players need a cumulative GPA of 2. 7 in order to the the 5th year. But DII players get the 5th year anyway. But it's not worded very clearly

He's DI, so if the rule is correct, I have no shot to keep him. He's is a solid player for my D prestige school. Maybe I can petition the HDAA. ;)
Thanks for the help.

I lost a player at 2.6 so I will say no.

I believe it is hopeless - had that situation once, where there was just no way to get him to the required level

you'll always have Paris...or this season or whatever...

Thanks, guys. That's what I thought (and feared). I'll just have to enjoy his play this season. He's not too bad for my D prestige.

currently have my first academic ineligible in his senior season. gpa is now 3.7. is he a sure thing to come back for SR/5? or is it a crapshoot?

I think highly likely - unless he goes EE
