Lead-footed high OBP players Topic

I'd be curious to hear some perspective on where in the lineup to put super slow players with high OBP. Do you put them #2 so they get on base for the heart of the order, or lower since they're a liability on the basepaths? Often in a progressive, I'll end up with a catcher with a .390 OBP and never know quite what to do with him.

I know there's a lot of variables, but I'd be interested to hear some reasoning as to where to bat such guys.

I'll go along with what contrartian proposed but I'd extend that range to 1-5 in the line-up, although line-up specifics matter a lot.  I think BP did studies on real life baseball that indicated that OBP was most important in batting positions 1, 4 & 2.

I used to bat Catchers 2nd until one set the Champs league record for hitting into double plays. Leadoff is actually better than 2nd. super slow players hit into a lot of double plays. batting leadoff means he comes up with the bases empty more often, less double play risk. I have no problem batting him leadoff IF he's a good hitter with enough stamina. otherwise batting him 9th puts him on base ahead of your best hitters and preserves stamina. If he's a weak hitter I'll put him 8th despite the obvious flaw.
