DL late in the season Topic

My RH part of my 1B platoon just got injured.  He'll be out 14 more days.  He's a .285-.345-..545 guy this year, with 27 homers in 365 AB's.

I have 15 games left in the season, currently 4 games up in the WC.  I don't want to blow it.

My LH part of that platoon has 99 power, but only 36 vR.  I think I would prefer to move my AAA 1B up and DL my guy.

My AAA guy has almost exactly the same offensive numbers as my MLB guy, he'll be able to hit.

I have a really good AAA team that should be great in the playoffs, but if I move my 1B up for 14 games he'll miss the AAA playoff roster.

But I think I"ll move him up anyway, just for the other good bat.

Anyway, whould you just say to heck with the AAA guys and maximize your MLB chances?

ML > AAA.

That shouldn't even be a question.

Yeah, plus you guy will be getting regular playing time in the majors, so he won't be missing out on development even though he misses out on the playoffs.  I have read that playing time in the playoffs helps development more than regular season playing time, but (a) this may be untrue, and (b) it might only apply to playoffs vs regular season playing time at the same level, in which case regular season at bats in the majors might be just as valuable, or more, than at bats in AAA playoffs.  Either way, your guy still keeps developing with regular at bats, and, like tec said, making the ML playoffs should trump anything that might happen in AAA.

An additionaly thought, just b/c you're 1b platoon bat went down, doesn't mean you have to play a 1b at that spot while he's there. You may have other reserves or minor leaguers more capable of filling that role than the guy you're thinking about.

Still, at the end of the day, like Tec said, ML > AAA, do something to enhance your odds of making the playoffs.

About the guy with a 36 vR and 99 Power, here is a guy who may be similar and did just fine against righties when he played for me (S4-S7); lots of HR's against RHP with OPS between .795 and .885.  (He was an OF, but I played him a lot at 1B too).

You may do better than you think with the platoon guy.

If you are making a run at the ML playoffs, do whatever is needed to max that chance. Forget AAA playoffs. Who cares. And your reg 1B will be back for the ML playoffs.
