If you have a guy crushing the ball in the minors with 22 contact and 98 Power, does he ever have any chance to be good in the ML? Or is the awesome power not enough to compenstate for the horrid contact.  Thanks in advance!

All 5 key "blue" ratings (contact, power, VsL, VsR, eye) factor into determining hitting prowess. You'll want the other 3 ratings to be 75-80 or so, or at least to average that, if he's going to be a guy who makes a living off his bat (as opposed to some combination of his bat and his glove or legs).

Also, because many owners don't pay huge attention to the minors in HBD, minor league stats don't translate to the majors nearly as cleanly as they do in real life.  Basically, they don't translate at all in HBD.

A lot of it depends on the vsL & vsR splits.  If he's 80/80 versus lefties and righties, sure he could be a major league hitter.  If he's in the 30s against L and R... career minor leaguer

I've seen 30-30 splits with high power hit 40+ home runs. Low average though..

I never thought this guy would be a good ML hitter, but after 3 seasons, it seems like I was wrong.

Edit:  He's actually # 3 on the NL MVP candidate's list right now.   He has no shot to win the award, but he's a contender.

Thats insane.  I guess power makes up for any low split.  I feel dumb for going for players with good ratings, all the while, I could have been stocking up on guys like that

Doesn't hit for a high average and K's a lot (as expected), but he hit 37 HRs and had 124 RBIs last season, so I can live with the low OBP. It should be noted though that I have a hitter's park.

He wasn't as bad as I would expect during his 128 ML games.  But then again I apparently dont know a lot about ratings

Yeah, his stats aren't as bad as you'd expect from his ratings, but mainly I wanted to get that joke in.  I would want better numbers from a 1B though.
