Def ratings playing zone Topic

I have a very young DII team (2 Jr. 5 So. 4 Fr. 1 RS) that is shaping up nicely but I'm worried I have recruited to much Def and not enough of the other ratings. This is also my first zone team so I was wondering in the future should I not weigh def rating so high when recruiting players to play in a zone?

DEFENSE is important in all sets, it's just less important in zone.   You're probably better off playing a different defense if that is going to be your recruiting  strategy.....

So it's safe to say def has less reward in a zone?

I disagree with that entirely. Defense is important in every set. Zone just lets you"hide" a weak defender better. But not if the other 4 guys are weak too.

The problem with your team is not high def.  You have a really young team, have a really tough conf. and you scheduled a much too difficult no-con schedule, you should probaly schedule easier in the future.

I agree the NC schedule was a little rough but honestly I knew this wasn't going to be a "good" year due to my youth. I've always tried to schedule experienced coaches in the NC for the purpose of trying to learn from them. This is also the most talented conference I've ever been in and I can't wait to see how this team fairs over the next couple seasons as the kids mature.
