Does a DIII Center Need Speed? Topic

There is a Center recruit I am interested in but he has only 13 spd with low potential. If his other attributes are going to be pretty good with very high athleticism for a center, how much would this matter? Also my team plays a zone defense so that might be able to hide some of his slowness I am assuming? Thanks for any input.

it always helps to have speed but you can get away with it if he's going to be high in his cores

Just sign him. In d3, if he has solid cores, his speed won't hurt him

D 1 centers don't need spd if their cores are good enough. I just had a junior center go EE with a 5 spd. (Ath, Def, Reb and LP were all 95+)

I'm trying to picture that.  TV coverage always stays with the ball, and that guy would never get into the camera frame if he's still coming up the floor :)

seriously, 1 speed is enough for an elite d1 big. its MORE than enough for d3. you just have to have your cores down - your ath, reb, def, and maybe sb, lp, sta (depending on your set and the purpose for the big).

I haven't seen too much difference when playing a 90ath/10 speed big against a 90 ath / 50 speed big. My guy did foul out in 18min once, but that could be a fluke.

not really needed, especially in DIII...   ill take ath over speed for centers any day
