two man rotation advice Topic

I am in a prog league that is still in the drafting stages. it is a 1885/1915 draft so the potential is there for a couple of big IP guys.

Has any one ever used a two man rotation and if so could you offer some advice, and or share your results?

thanks

Yeah, it's all about the PC.

I have run 2 man rotations with 400 IP guy.

As long as you have 1300 or so quality innings you can make it happen, just don't insist your starters go deep in games if they have less than 600 IP.

well so far we are in round 5 of the draft and i was able to pick up John clarkson 902 IP and another starter with 600+ so IP will not be a problem.

This is my first time using any of the BIG IP guys

You'll never get 900 IP out of Clarkson, I would plan on 81 starts at 8ish ip per game.   If you plan on getting 700 ip out of him, then anything over that is gravy.

You can probably get 95 starts out of Clarkson but it takes some manipulating.

Do a search for Silver king in the forums and you should find some good threads.

thanks for the help TJ. Figured id never get the whole 900 out of Clarkson, but was hoping to get right around the 700 like you mentioned.

Sean, I'm in his league - so I probably shouldn't give to much advice, but in another progressive I recently started 1903 Joe McGinnity 81 times with great success. He pitched nearly 500 innings and won 39 games and the Cy. Team won 108 and is playing In the WS now.

I am in a theme league based on seeing how you can use 700 + IP pitchers - MLB99753 - and I know that several of the owners are using 2-man rotations. You might want to take a look and see how they are doing.

I went with a variation - I found two starters with the most, and highest ratios of complete games I could and put them in an A/B combination.

So  essentially it is a 2-man rotation with 3-men, the 700+ IP pitcher, in my case Matt Kilroy 1886, pitches every other day, without putting that stress on the other starter who, being two people, pitch every fourth day.

But as Trentonjoe says, it is all about the pitch count which is what I was trying to deal with by going for the complete games as a criteria for the other starters.

Mostly it has worked ok, though once one of the A/B starters was fatigued and I threw in someone else into the A/B rotation for a round or two, then switched them back.
