If you acquire a player via trade who is currently in the minors, but has no options left, can you assign him to a minor league team?

If a player has been signed to a minor league contract and is playing in the minors, why would he have to pass through waivers after a trade?

Because you have to have options to be sent down without clearing waivers.

I had a weird scenario last season where I acquired a guy, put him on waivers a team claimed him, I claimed him back when he had to waive him, and then he did not have to clear again and was able to be sent directly to the minors.
