Low WE redshirt, should I keep him? Topic

I rs'd this guy because I thought his WE might come up a little and make him a worthwhile player. However, he hasn't had his WE go up at all, is it worth keeping him for four years? I think I'd be better off to recruit another player because he is going to keep the same cores over the next four years.

I'd keep him, gvsujulius.  I've never had WE improve for any player I've ever redshirted DURING the RS season.  I've got the same issue as you currently in that I've got a Frosh with 16 WE who's seeing about 10 min a game as a frosh - no WE improvement.  But here's the deal, your PG will be the #2 PG and with the good grades he got, you'll be able to devote more minutes to his attributes, which already improved decently considering the low WE and redshirt, combined with presumably higher study hall.  After next season, as a RS Soph, he'll presumably take the reigns at the point.  I'd expect his WE to go from maybe 13 to 16 next season with a lot of PT.  The following season as a starting soph, he might gain 6-8 WE, and the same the next season.  Once he's in the 30s it's not really an issue.

Thanks hawkfan1992, I didn't think of it like that. He still has high potential in speed, defense, ball handling and passing.

keep him. we doesnt grow in RS year. Just play him alot in the following 4 seasons and he should have a WE in the upper 20s/low 30s, with a rating over 600. And plus, he looks like he can play even with this current ratings once his IQ gets higher.

I'm going to be very upset with you if you cut him. He was on my short list and one of my top backup choices if you beat me out for Ford. To cut him now would be a waste. Give him the PT and he'll be an all-conference player for you.

I'm not sure his WE ever makes it into the 30s, or that he ever really maxes out, but a 60 Ath, 80 Spd, 55 Def, 70 BH, 70+ pass PG (with B- or better FT) is a very good PG for a NT level team.

That said, I'm something of a potential whore, and if you want the flip side of the argument, look no further than my Mark Antonelli.

A screwup by me when he was a freshman cost him his initial WE growth, and he's never recovered. Three seasons under his belt, and he still has high potential in rebounding, shot blocking, low post, perimeter, and passing, with average in Ath/Spd. He could have been a real stud; instead he's quite possibly the most frustrating player I've ever had.

gvsujulius - could you make a note to re-post when that guy's entering conference play his senior season to update as to how his WE and attributes improved, or didn't improve, as the case may be? Will be an interesting case study.  Thanks.

I will try and remember to post him in his SR year. Zbrent, I am really interested to see Ford and how he continues to develop.

Yea, I promised him a start, and he started something like 18 of the first 20 games. I switched the lineups, swapping in a senior for him) in an effort to beat a top team in the conference, and then was travelling and did get a chance to log back in for 2 days.

I got the ****** message the same day I was able to log back in, so I just missed it. With that message came a WE drop. I started him the rest of the games, and got the you're a good honest guy message right at the end of the season, but his WE only rebounded to 13 (started at 12) instead of to the 17 or 18 it was before the ****** message. Only 5 points of WE difference, but it compounds itself at that level and he never really recovered.

Ford will likely get to 700+ overall, but I'm still not sure how to best use him. His Passing just went from High to Average, so he's not going to make it to PG material I don't think. If the BH (still high) can make another 30 points or so, he could be a very interesting D3 2-guard, especially since I suspect his low post will end up being a massive growth category.

16 Games into his Senior Season.
