Should I have a closer? Topic

Unless the Theme necessitates one, I never set someone to Closer.  My personal feeling is that it doesn't do me any good to have a stud available in the 9th if I blow the lead in the 7th; I want the best available pitcher out there at all times.  If it's a situation where I'm playing some gawdawful team and don't want to use up good reliever innings I'll set a pitcher or two to rest to save them; otherwise, I don't want to lose a game with bullets left in the gun.

I dunno the 50 IP closer to me is one of the best deals in the sim.  35-40 saves for $2M or even less.

Over 50 IP, less than 2M$? Maybe my standards are higher but I don't think there are a ton of these guys where you could say it's the best deal.  The only players I see in that role is 15 Falkenberg, 43 Hallet and 12 Weilman but I think of these guys as setup men. Just about all of the others give up too many Homeruns that result in too many blown saves for that role.

I'm with you, crimsonblue, in that I don't see spending $2 mil on a "Closer".  If my opponent's 2-3-4 batters are coming up in the 7th and my starter is due to be pulled in a close game, I want my best guy out there; get them out in order, and I may never have to face them again.  Let a second or third best reliever face the bottom of the order.
