The other thing that is sort of hidden in the six losses is the number of upperclassmen on the opponents. It's something like 4 of the 6 opponents had 10 upperclassmen, 1 had 9 and the other had 8. That translates into a lot of high IQs, and IQ has a big impact on team success.

Good point.  I can see and understand that.  Add that with home court i guess not meaning much in D3 then i can see the losses to a couple teams.

I had a top 5 ranked team lost to a 300 RPI and I still made the 2nd round of the NT. Bizarre things happen, ultimately look at your team and compare it to the top teams in your world. I know I have looked at those teams and see what they recruit and what makes them successful. That made this game a lot more fun. I know it is easy to get frustrated but you haven't even had an opportunity after a few seasons to see your recruits play as SR's. Stick with it and give it time.

If it's any consolation, I probably had one of the worst losses in HD history one season in D2.  I was a 62 point favorite against a Sim team, my team was ranked in the top 5, playing on my home court, and ended up losing by a couple of points when his PF of all players,  just went off from three point range.  Was so mad that I nearly quit then and there.  Ended up winning the National Title that same season which made that Sim loss look even more inexplicable.  I've given up on getting "too" upset about individual games (I'll still throw out a rant on my Coaches Corner here and there) and just accept the fact that we're dealing with a computer program with some bit of randomness built into it, and that strange things will occasionally happen.  Doesn't mean we have to like it when those things happen, but just remember that they will from time to time.

Also, the advice that you're getting about overall ratings is solid.  As a number of coaches have stated, ignore the overall rating and look for numbers in the categories that are important for each specific position.  Most of those are common sense, but if you're a little fuzzy on which ratings are the most important for each position, I'm sure someone wouldn't mind answering if you asked.  Give it some time (a couple of seasons at least) and if you're still frustrated, then make the decision to move on, but don't make any rash decisions before you really give the game a chance.

Completely understood, I've done the exact same thing you have before (Armstrong Atlantic State v. Montevallo) to a cavalcade of naysayers, hissers, and GFYers of all kinds...you're getting off rather easy here, and hopefully you learn something from this...I learned to gameplan more/more closely...what will your thread do for you?  If anyone has fought the WIS pendulum, you're reading him ahora.
seriously man... when you ask for help, and people try to help you, and you act like dicks to them, telling them they are stupid and wrong, despite YOU asking for help and them knowing a thousand times more about the game then you... well, then you get what you have coming to you. i DONT think kyle deserved those quick negative responses he got, those were uncalled for. if his 2nd post was telling someone they were mentally retarded for suggesting he read the forums, and then told the other guy hes an idiot and plain ignorant for not caring about overall ratings (why else are they there?), and then made about 50 more posts about why overall ratings were so important and everyone else was wrong (didn't you do that, exactly?) , then i could see you making a comparison. but not now. and, i would even venture to say, kyle has thanked people for responses (in a non ridiculously sarcastic manner), and showed interest in having a logical conversation, which is what differs the MOST from your thread.

and besides, people tried WAY harder to help you than him, there were some really good responses and insights in the thread you reference. this thread, some people helped, for sure, but a lot of people were supremely unhelpful. the only similarity is some people jumped on you early on and it really wasn't called for, either. and that sucks. i almost wonder what you would have been like if people had given you a fair shake. i suppose the world will never know! but you certainly didn't do anything to try to improve the ratio you got - of good, helpful posts, to worthless negative posts - and you certainly did plenty to make it worse. god help us all if kyle makes the same choices you did :) but, i really and truly just can't imagine there being another colonels :) although, you seem to have lost your former enthusiasm to wreak as much havoc as possible. im not sure if you lost the desire, or just don't have quite the same energy, but its definitely not the same. almost disappointing, really :) i mean, the whole "i fought the WIS pendulum" line is a nice touch. but come on, cant you do better than that?? wheres the fire and brimstone?
Seriously dude? I like that the guy has gotten some good info on here, and i hope he ends up liking the game. But with a thread titled "This game is a joke" what kind of responses did you expect?

This thread is a great example of why I stay away from the forums. You guys ***** foot around the problems. Listen Kyle, you need to recruit better athletes. There is no excuse for a D2 school to go after the players that you have gone for.  Reichert - C - ath 19 when you recruited him. that is god awful. Def a 26, that is god awful. Clearly you think bigs only need high rebounding and blocking skills, but that is way off. ath, def, reb. Same thing with Bohan - C - a sophomore and he currently has a 19 ath rating, ugh. 26 Def, wow. You can't expect to win games if you have an unathletic team that can't defend. Six players have ath rating below 30, when you should have no player below fifty. You have five players that have a def rating below thirty, when no one should be below fifty.

another important rating is speed and you only have one guy above seventy. focus on ath/def/spd/reb and you will be fine. BTW that last coach didn't help with all the lousy recruits that he brought in, but that is no excuse for following in his footsteps. good luck.

Good advice Skunk.  It doesn't change much, but he's at a D3 school, not D2.  At least give him that much.

I wish I had the team that skunk thinks D3 teams should be.  Starting pg on the NT runner up has below 50 in both ath and def.  4 guys have below 50 ath.  3 guys have def below 50.  Guess I'm doing it wrong?

Kyle - There are no hard and fast rules.  Should you shoot for above 50 in those categories?  Yep.  But in D3, you can rarely get a team where everyone has everything you want.  You'll sometimes have to sacrifice on 1 guy's defense to get more offence, or vice versa.  People are generally very helpful on here.  Ask questions (in a more polite way than the topic headline, preferably) and people will be more than happy to help.

Kyle - I have found that it takes 3-4 years to build a program into a strong team that can make the NT every year. I would stay with the same team for 3-4 years more and recruit for Ath and Defense especially and I bet in 3 seasons you will be very satisfied with the team you have. You'll still lose a game or two that doesn't make sense, but this happens in real life too. I hate losing too. I have like 7 teams, and if 6 of them win and one loses, I focus on the one loss :) . But, this is a great game. I agree totally about reading the Aejones thread. That will help you a whole lot. Good luck and hope you stay and enjoy it.

If were venting, can someone explain this one to me (luckily the loss was to Garman who is one of the nicest coaches in this game and therefore I just said GG and moved on without a CC tirade, but this feels like a good spot for it!):

He did the same thing to me.  However I expected it as I have become a god awful coach

Just so we are clear, you are saying where they end up, not where they start.

Appreciate the responses. I have another team on another name in iba. That's in yr 2. so I have been able to see more than just this team.
I have a team in every world and have been at some of them for 30 seasons.  I still ask questions every day and learn something new every time I get online.
