If you are 200K short after drafting to pick up Milacki '88, or are just sick of him (it happens), try Chris Sampson 2006 or Marshall Bridges 1960.

I won't claim they will be as consistently lights out as Milacki, but they are both good, one with a few more and the other about the same IP as Milacki and both cost 200K less.

Sampson is 2-0 with a 0.84 ERA in an OL for me right now, after pitching 21 innings in 21 games.

Also, if like me you use tanking games to rest your starters in an OL as a last resort or just plain never do it because it doesn't sit well with you, try some pitchers that give you a shot at winning a game especially if you can start them against a relatively weak opposing team and in the right park.

The one that has had the most success for me, in games where I bench only those regular starting position players that are below 100% or have lower PAs, say 3 or 4 at at a time, is Dick Conway 1888. He has gone 3-1 with a 4 point something ERA after 5 starts on one team. And he costs about what Milacki does, but after pitching 44 innings, with the 10% SIM bonus I have another 25 innings or so out of him to go. So I have gotten my money's worth.

Doc Gooden 1994 also wins sometimes when he starts. Less consistent than these are Max Leon 1977, who you can use as a Long Relief B most of the year with some dignity, and Dave Frost (have to look the year up).

No great claims here about these pitchers. If you face a weak opponent and need to rest a bunch of players, but aren't in a position to, or just don't want to let a whole game get away, these guys can rest your rotation, and sometimes give you a shot to win. Conway has beaten Joss at least once for one of my teams, but I wouldn't recommend trying that at home.
