Recruiting Ripoff. Topic

one thought. you have to understand that recruiting is PURELY considering credit drivne. so if a home visit is worth 100 points for you, and 100 points for someone else, if you only give 200 points, and they give 500, the other team will win. every time. and in many cases, a home visit might give you 100 points, and give them 150, or 200, or 50.

in d2, you have more money than d3, and higher prestige. the on probation probably knocked that schools credit down somewhat, but WIS hits those programs hard when they get put on probation. however, they don't give them huge penalties on top of that (an a- prestige school might drop to d-, but then, they are probably on even footing as other d- schools). and thats just how divisions work in WIS - worst d2 school is basically as prestigeous as the best d3 school. in real life, maybe the best d3 teams would wreck bottom end d2 teams. actually, they would here, too. but they don't have an advantage in recruiting (not artificially - smarter coaches garner many major advantages).

so basically, the other coach jumped on, spent a bunch of money, and took the player from you. doing *1 eval* is like doing nothing, thats not going to keep the kid coming. the other coach probably out spend you 20 times in that cycle alone, and had out spent you by double or more overall, so the player signed with him. if you want someone in this game, you have to spend a bunch on them, or risk the other school wants him more, spends more, and you lose him.

Honestly, if he's a level above you and put in more effort, no way you were going to get him. One eval is never gonna get the job done, EVER.

He tells you that a more prestigious school is higher on his list and your response was to send an assistant to watch a game, while the more prestigious school's head coach goes to visit with his family or invited him for a weekend on campus.  Or both.  Maybe multiple times.  Seems fairly clear cut here both in terms of what happened in HD and what should happen in RL.

If you want to wax poetically about how things happen in real life, the player would always choose D2 over D3, because D3 can't offer athletic scholarships.

Not every time, but yeah, that was the first thing that came to my mind.

Two thoughts:
1) Yes, a player will sign with a probation school. Ohio State's football is ineligible for a bowl game but Rival.com ranked their recruiting class as #4.  After all, it's only for one year and most freshmen don't play much anyway.

2) Likewise, in WIS, you're ineligible for one season, but you still have 3 seasons remaining....and at a higher division.

It seems perfectly logical to me

Is it me or has there been a large amount of 1st or 2nd season coaches flipping out about how the game sucks the last week or so?

its not you. i think it has something to do with the sharp up-tick in d3 prospects, due to maybe the radio ads alblack mentioned (anyone know where those are running? or what stations? i live near alblack but i only listen to old folk stations, got to love that old time rock and roll, but i haven't heard anything).

Basically, people flipping out that the game sucks because they didn't succeed immediately ...

Not necessarily.  I've seen D2 caliber players choose D3 in real life for lots of different reasons.  And while D3's don't offer "athletic" scholarships, they still offer scholarships to athletes. They're just not labeled "athletic" scholarships.

I'm pretty sure it was on 1530, ESPN Sports, in Cincinnati.   And I think it was during the NCAA tournament.  I remember hearing the ad twice and I only listen to that station during my 20 minute afternoon commute.

If you're just used to playing "franchise mode" in video games and setting all the settings to player-friendly levels, you expect immediate success.  This game is not necessarily ideal for instant gratification.
