In HD, I would guess 90%+ of the transfer are players that are cut when the coach sees a better option or corrects a bad decision.

Your guess is not accurate whatsoever...I'd say it's closer to 60/40 coach's decision/player's decision.

So this happens much more in D1? Or am I just completely missing it at D2 and D3?  I have not coached D1, so I guess I would qualify my comment to say I've never seen it happen at D2 or D3 on any team I have coached.

dashdebater. Sorry bud. I guess these are just personal issues that I am having a tough time getting my arms around after coaching and then coming to this game. Just wanted to throw them out there to get other people's point of view. You make some good points. Thanks for your imput. The bottom line is I need to just get better at this game.

I know exactly where you're coming from.  The semantics in this game aren't a perfect match to RL, so if you're trying to map it over 1-1 it doesn't work out.  I completely agree that it feels strange offering academically ineligible guys scholarships, incidentally.  But it's a fundamental facet of the game's programming that accepting a scholarship is the way a player comes to your school.  The REAL reason why I think this is a problem is because it means having an ineligible player forces you to play short-handed.  I really think we should at least get a walk-on when somebody goes ineligible.  I think it's a little silly to say that nobody else at the school can play basketball well enough to assume a roster spot while the ineligible player is unavailable.

I don't like #1 for this reason. I often recruit players to play 2 possible positions in their time at my school. Example. a guard with high potentials in BH and passing might be low to start with, so I will play him at SG early. Once his BH and passing move up, I might move him to pg. Or the other side is his potentials play out well to a future SF, but his current stats are better suited at sg etc.

As for the stockpiling players, it's not quite how you see it. For example, I will recruit multiple players because I know there is a good chance that someone will battle me or take one I'm recruiting. If I already have player x considering me, but he's not a priority, I will continue to recruit other players, and if I lose the battle and maybe even run out of money, there is no further effort needed for player x and I still get a guy I was considering without scrambling at the last minute to find someone. Also, sometimes, you're just putting out feelers for players and one might consider you before you expected it.
