Job Change Input Topic

I need some input from experienced coaches out there. I am in my second season with my team. We won our CT last year and it appears we should be in the post season again this year. However as a new player coming in I did not give enough thought to Prestige and conference RPI.

I am in a very weak conference. Over half of the teams are SIMS. The last two coaches in, another coach and my self are already the strongest in the conference. We are getting 1 team in the NT & 1 or 2 in the PI, so there is relatively little recruiting money coming in from there. Things are not going to change in the near future if ever. Recruiting will be severly hampered because of these circumstances. The gap is getting larger between us and the powers in our world.

I have no interest in playing the game at the DI level. I do want to go DII at sometime in the future.  If I stay with this team progress will be very slow if any. Here's where I need some expertise. If you were in this position would you hang in there and take your licks?  Would you change teams in your world to a stronger conference that would help you achieve your goals much faster? What are the chances of going DII after a 23-7, NT season and probably a better seasom than that this year. Would you change worlds and start over alot smarter?

All input will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I think you chances for DII are better if you dominate a weak conference, and make the NT, than being .500 in a stronger one

Are you just wanting to get to D2?  If so, you'll be qualified to move up after this season I'd imagine.  I think they really weakened the qualifications for getting to D2 a while back - I'm surprised you weren't qualified at the end of last season, really (were you?).

If you're wanting to stay in D3 for a while before moving to D2, then it depends on what you're looking for out of the game.  For me, I enjoy playing in strong/full conferences.  I just think it's more fun, regardless of the W-L at the end of the season.  If you're wanting to build up a nice record year in and year out and don't have much interest in an active conference corner or building conference rivalries, then just keep doing what you're doing and make sure to schedule a tough OOC to make up for your SIM conference.

Alblack & ryrun, thanks for you responses. DII is not my primary objective at this time. I am very competitve (retired 20 year RL coach at many different levels. Last 10 @ JUCO. I'm just looking at the big picture that it's not likely I'll ever be competitve with the top teams in Rupp without a change.

I guess my options in order of preference are; 1) Move to a team in a more competitve conference with a better RPI and continue to become more competitve  and build my resume. 2) Move to another world and start over. 3) Go DII earlier than I wanted to and settle for a less attractive job than if I wait. 4) Stay where I'm at and live with it.

ryrun, not sure what you mean by weakened qualifications for DII jobs? I didn't even consider It last year. Alblack, your such a great contributor to these forums. Thanks again guys. Any other thoughts by you or anybody else willbe appreciated.

Eh, in my experience you should be qualified for practically any DII job, but I was at DIII a long time ago. I would say move to a conference with a lot of coaches (their level of success isn't extremely important) because it's more fun and take whatever job you have to as long as it is in a good area to recruit from.

On one of my other username's, I took over a C- DIII school that was just awful. In a couple seasons, we weren't a NT team, but we were on the verge of the PIT and very competitive within the conference (above .500 in the second season).

I only used that username for two seasons but it was nearly as fun as any experience I've had playing HD. It's a lot more rewarding to rebuild a team than to take over a pretty established team. I've been through both so I can guarantee you that.

My time at George Mason a few seasons ago in Crum was incredibly enjoyable, even though I had to start with a D+ prestige. Making the team into a contender makes you appreciate the success so much more and it almost makes me want to leave my real life favorite team (NCSU) just to go back and take over a huge project to go through it again.

A long time ago it took a little bit of success to move from D3 to D2 - not a ton, but I don't think you could do the one and done at D3 that you can do now (not even sure you have to be all that successful).  Somewhere along the way the requirements weakened to where we are now, where I think you basically just have to last the season at D3 and you'll be qualified for D2... I don't know if you're restricted on the openings you qualify for or if WIS just assumes that the higher prestige openings will be gobbled up by more deserving coaches while the weaker resumes have to take the B/C type openings - been a long time since I tried to move D3 to D2.

I'm sure you'll be qualified after this season and am almost positive you would've been able to move up last year too.  Some coaches make lateral moves in D2 and some low-end D1 coaches come back to D2 as well, so if you're looking to move up you might want to save one or two of your four applications until after decisions start so you don't run into more qualified coaches with all of your apps, then you wind up stuck at the same place (option 4).

If I were in your shoes, I'd only be looking at options 1 and 3.  D2 is the most fun division for me, so personally I'd lean towards option 3 and try to find a school around a B prestige in a good conference (with at least 8 or 9 human coached teams), but that's just me.

If you do change worlds and want to play in a great D2 conference, Alblack and I are in the Heartland in Crum D2 - by far the most fun and most competitive conference I've ever been in.  We don't have a very high turnover rate as a result, but it's worth the wait to get in there... even if you just want to beat up on Drury or make fun of Al every once in a while.

High quality DII programs have settled for much much less, you wouldn't have a problem obtaining any job in DII in my mind and wouldn't be settling for less. 1 NT appearance pretty much seals the deal for any job from DIII to DII, 2 and you're set for life!

Can anyone help me out? I put in for a job. It has been pending for some time. The site says that job decisions begin at 11:59PM. I assume that's Eastern. That time has come and gone. It's still showing pending. There has been no status change.

When does the status normally change? When it is filled does the status show filled? Does it show turned down? How will I know if I got the job? It's got me hung up. I have a couple possible backup options but I don't want to waste my applications if I can get this job. If you have been thru this process or know how it works, please rspond. Thanks!

if you weren't qualified for the job you applied for you'd probably get a rejection email within a cycle or two of applying.

if you're still in consideration for that job it may take around 24 hours for the team to pick it's new coach.

If you get the job your team home page will change to the new team.
