perhaps you should see his responses on another thread.

tania isn't one to complain about anyone else.

the person i quoted was ... taniajane.

@ first i thought this was a d!<k response...but a contributor should be able to give (at least) as much as he gives!
That may be true (no idea), but he's not just being a d!<k to the original poster but to anyone who might be wondering the same thing as well.
That other person can just ask the same question.  I'd be hesitant to respond in a meaningful way to anything taniajane asked at the moment.  Rubs me the wrong way when a person with 10 seasons played and 71 career forum posts hops up on a high horse and starts being an *** and preaching about how the forums were intended to be used - a philosophy on that subject that virtually every more veteran user on the forums would either disagree with or not care about enough to respond.

And incidentally taniajane, if you can't see how asking team-specific coaching questions could lead to learning about the intricacies of how the game works in general or think that there is somehow a meaningful difference between asking the team-specific question or finding a way to get people to give you the same information in a general sense, which in reality is providing you with LESS detailed analysis of how the veteran coaches think things work and in many cases might be less useful in terms of learning, then frankly there's no point in any of us arguing with you because you're a hell of a lot less intelligent and rational than you think you are.

To answer your question, I never worry about it.  I try to avoid 6 in a class, and try to sign the best players available.

Once I did sign a sub-standard juco center because I thought I needed 1 more rebounder to make a final four run, and couldn't wait for potential to kick in (D2).

hmmm dahsbater I thought "asking team-specific coaching questions could lead to learning about the intricacies of how the game works in general..."  was the whole idea of an entire sticky for mentors??

Like I said, you're clearly too stupid to be worth arguing with.  Having 1 mentor is not remotely the same thing as trying to solicit feedback from multiple coaches on 1 question.  Very different propositions.  Having a mentor would be akin to a local government hiring a full-time consultant.  Asking in the forums is holding a town-hall meeting.  They both are asking for opinions on how to do things, and the hired expert is certainly more likely to be a more knowledgeable source than most of the people at the town meeting, but for one smallish question the information of the masses is generally going to outweigh the knowledge of the 1.  Get over yourself.

Sometimes, Tania, you want multiple perspectives and don't want to open a ton of sitemails. Seen plently of long time veterans ask team specific questions. Place me with dahs.

And I have balanced my classes with JUCO and transfers before - usually because I lack a ready backup somewhere to have a complete team.

I just try to make sure that I don't end up with classes of 6 - that hurts. Otherwise, I just let it play out in a way that's best for my team. I've never strived for perfect balance in class sizes, and it hasn't really hurt me.
what's wrong with a class of 6? I just won an NC with 6 FR ;)

thanks a-b for your info, and yes I can see connnut and dahs baters points. Mine is  (wiki reference) there were over 600,000 users of whatifsports as 2009...now divided between the 8 or  so sims that is about 75,000 possible people playing hoops dynasty. Now IF just 5% of those 75,000 decided they TOO should have other opinions on how to run their team ( who should start) or which specific player to recruit, a or b,...(3,750) what a mess.

Perhaps what is needed is a special topic area for "Can someone give me another perspective on running/recruiting my team's players"

I believe, there is a Huge difference between asking generic info on philosophy of play (ie: I found the topic/discussion of strategy for guarding different zones interesting and informative) and asking team specific questions.

YOu are saying it COULD be, but evidence long term is that it ISN'T a problem, and hasn't been, so why worry about that unless it is?  Most people don't ask them.  Its only an occasional blip rather than a torrent.

****

And on the original question, to expand;  I'll often worry less about balancing long run and just add some juco or transfers if I need to to increase depth at certain positions in a given year.

Also .. you shouldn't ignore team specific threads, even if its not your own team.  You can learn quite a bit from the answers that someone else gets even on team specific things.
