Corey Lennon is the best you've got at SS...but he really isnt good enough and you have nothing else in your franchise that will work at SS

Thanks for the input guys.  That helps a lot.  I noticed his fielding % was pretty good playing SS last year, so are you saying that he just didn't get to enough balls and it hurt my pitchers stats instead of his?

He won't make many errors because his glove is fine.  It's his range that will kill him.  If you play him at short, he'll give you plenty of "-" plays because of balls he won't get to that the average SS will.  He can win GG's at 3B though, where his range will be fine.

Too bad his name isn't D. Jeter.....then he would be a perennial GGer at SS!!

Whoa whoa a GGer at SS?  Better watch out how you use the letters GGER...

Last year he only made 8 - plays at SS.  My guess is that in a similar number of defensive innings at the position he'd be likely to double that this season.  I don't think you CAN'T play him at SS, and his bat is good enough that he's still an overall positive as a SS.  He would definitely look better at 3B, though.

Thanks guys.  This really helps.  I am starting to see things clearly now.  He is obviously a very weak option at SS, but he could play it in a pinch.  I will move him to third base.  What does the category RF stand for and how do I read it?

Kyle,

RF is Range Factor. Its a calculation of a players putouts and assists divided by Innings played at a certain position. Every position is different in terms of how high it will be and what that really means. First baseman will have the highest RF on the team because they get so many put outs.

its hit or miss...i drafted a reliever this season...assigned him right to the bigs....and he has been very very good....

I am starting my first season and this guy is my best overall player.  They have him at SS.  From what I am reading here, is he not good enough to be a SS?

That guy would be better suited for 3B, but I wouldn't have an issue playing him at short if it meant getting his bat into the lineup.

I second what Leslie Chow.  Also, I think what you need to look at the individual player.  Some progress much quicker than others.  What i don't want is a good prospect in the majors "learning" in the bigs.  Because in the end he will hurt my team and cost me in the long for through earlier arbitration and eventual free agency.

it's best not to rush a player. unless you draft a college guy who's 75% near his ratings already or sign a IFA that's similar just about every prospect is gonna need at least 3 years at the minor league level before you can bring them up and not hurt growth.

most prospects won't reach their projected ratings but you wanna give them enough time to marinate and get properly seasoned.
me personally, i don't care how good a prospect starts out. he goes to rookie and doesn't come up til he's gone a season at rookie,low-a,high-a & then AA.
i may skip AAA if he's good enough but 4 seasons is the minimum i like my guys to have before bringing them to the majors.

everyone above is right about the range factor though. just because a player doesn't make a ton of errors doesn't mean he's not costing your team. those balls that are just out of his reach or that he just couldn't get to turn into singles, doubles, those turn into more pitches for the staff to throw and that could allow for those crooked number innings.
