Thoughts on maximizing pitching in Colorado? Topic

I'll beat some of you smart guys to the punch... ...what the best answer =  Move  :)  ........  not going to do it....just moved there and want to stay....I'm a sucker for offensive stats...

Seriously though, I think I have a general idea here, but was curious if the vets of HBD have any interesting thoughts/ideas here.

Do you get the best hitters you can and then worry about the pitching later, doing your best to get decent guys with good GB/FB?

Do you focus of a great staff and do your best with the hitter....trying to find guys with some range and some decent ratings that might lend to them being fairly cheap in FA, but potentially effective?

What strategy have you had the most success with in Colorado?

Thanks in advance for any help.

BTW , here's my team - http://www.wisjournal.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/FranchiseProfile.aspx?fid=2657

Obviously I'm not asking for specific opinions/criticism of my current team, but figured someone would demand a link.

groundball specialists are probably a must in colorado

and then good defense for your infielders since they will get more work?

Never played there so this is just speculation, but if it were me, I would definitely look at getting guys that well exceeded their range requirements for their positions.

Maybe 3 shortstops in the outfield?

I'd look for pitchers who won't give up a lot of walks and who'll post a lot of strikeouts, and you can help them out even further by employing a catcher with great PC and putting an above-average defense behind them.

This doesn't necessarily mean you've got to find a stable of stud pitchers and great defenders who can also hit. It's easy to guess what skill pitchers need to avoid walks (thus clogging the bases, which is bad in a high-offense environment). It's a little less known what skills contribute to strikeouts, but it's not hard to figure out. Look at your world's leaders and figure out their common traits. Put the best defenders, possibly at the expense of offense, at the most important positions and sacrifice defense for offense at a couple of spots that'll hurt you less, if you must. Experiment with hitters who would suck in a lower offense environment.

I have a team on 'Rado.  My strategy is to neglect the staff for the most part and try to get defensive relevant position players, with every one of them having Power over 90 with ML wise other hitting ratings.  The plan is to bash the face in of anyone who steps foot in the stadium.

The plan is still coming into fruition, but I do have 6 starters on pace for well over 40 bombs, am only 1 game out of first, and have several pitchers with an ERA north of 7.00.

LOL

Update: The Mile High Club has slipped to 4 back in the race.  Still hitting moon shots, but giving them up as well.  A little pitching may be in order and I have just acquired a veteran legit arm for down the stretch (gave up my 3B with power of 86 and called up a AAA 3B with power of 93) so we will see if that helps at all.

Also had my groundball wizard stud SuA go down to injury for 60 days, that didn't help.
