This is a senior on my D3 team: http://www.whatifsports.com/hd/PlayerProfile/Ratings.aspx?tid=0&pid=1927807

No battle.  Cost me probably $4K-$5K to pull down.  You can't tell me some D1 team couldn't use this guy off the bench, at the least.

I'm no expert on D1 but I still am shaking my head that this player ended up on a D3 team recruited by Sim AI.  He seems like he'd get PT on a number of D1 teams in Allen.

And I believe that D1 teams should be searching lower. Check out the following two players.

Player 1, playing for a D3 team. This is a D1 calibre player.

And you and getiguy are two of the reasons I'll probably never win the NW Conference tournament :)

This is directed to D1 coaches with prestige of C+ and better.  Last year I lost a recruit that was on my D2 search list (with my Holy Family team) to a mid major D1 school with a B- prestige.  I was shocked he searched the D2 lists with that prestige, but he sitemailed me and said that the recruit was on his D1 list.  I couldn't believe he was looking at recruits barely above 500 even if the recruit somehow showed as D1 to his mid major and D2 to my D2 team, but to each his own.

Now this year a conference mate lost a recruit to a D1 school with a B- prestige for a PF he had already pulled down with a sub 500 rating.  Now the guy is on the D1 list, but why the heck is a B- prestige even looking at sub 500 guys??   He has great potential and could hit 750, but that's probably only a 1 year starter on a good D1 team.

The question is, when recruiting at D1, do you generally look at everyone on the list, or is there a minimum value overall that you start at??
I think I am DI coach.

I just signed this guys (OVR 495)

I am going to RS him and I think he'll be my FB/PRESS C in year 4 and 5.

I guess what it boils down to is even though I have B- Prestege, I don't have the gobs of money  that the BCS teams have so when I make a mistake, I have to sign someone for cheap.   I lost a battle (that I shouldn't have gotten into) and was kinda stuck  with less than $10K and an open slot.   That 10K wasn't worth carrying over, it wasn't going to help me win a battle (or sign a better player) this year, so I trolled around looking for players with high WE and lots of high potentials.  Eventually this guys will be like a

ATH 60
SPD 45
REB 95
DEF 55

player for me.  He won't be a scorer but I'll take those "CORES" for a Center.

EDIT----Maybe he scores a little with a 70 LP
 and 60 ATH....maybe.

I had a team in Rupp CACC (University of the Sciences) for a number of years. I am not a very good coach, just look at my D1 record. The borderline D1/D2 recruit with lots of high potentials is essential for me, particularly in the mid-Atlantic. There are so many higher prestige D1 teams in that area. If I go up against a B- prestige, I am not going to have a geographic advantage and have to double their spending. Likewise, the B- teams in this region (like Princeton) have a similar problem. They either have to battle the other B- prestige schools within 300 miles (there are lots of them) or have to battle local schools with a better than B- prestige and outspend them.

It is not hard at all to understand why Princeton went after this guy, especially if he used up most of his cash on an unsuccessful battle.

Here is the superstar is question after year one
He redshirted this season....he'll probably play some minutes as my 4th or 5th big guy next season in my uptempo fastbreak offense.  I think I can get away with 10-12 minutes out of him.
I think by the start of year 3 (maybe 4) he'll be a significant contributor as a C.  His defense and ATH will always be low but I am hoping his SB will cover some of that up.   This guy isn't going to be an all american but he will start for me and will probably be a honorable mention all conference player year's 4 and 5.

Well, they are certainly better!

This guy is definitely a step down for me but I only had a little cash left and the concept of "uncontested" is rare in the NY area.   Between the Big East, the A-10, the other Ivies,  the Patriot and an occasional MEAC  it's rough if you make a  mistake.

I'm in the "recruit low and find guys with tons of potential" camp. It helped me build up my Vanderbilt SEC team pretty fast, though I will also have pretty rough seasons when I don't have many upperclassmen. It's a strategy that pays off when you have 4 or 5 player senior classes.

I don't think he is quite that good but he is certainly an average DI post player.

needs better ath to be a starter IMO, great backup to dominate boards and pump in 10 quick points off the bench though. I'd take him. Can back up both bigs. Probably got him extremely cheaply in the first place. Don't see a down side... but then again I don't know how to recruit at the elite level yet, so...
