Starting SG vs. backup PG/SG/SF Topic

Alright, one of these guys is going to be my starting 2 for the upcoming season and the other is going to be the first backup at the 1 and 2 and the 2nd backup at the 3.  I'm going to be running a 9-man rotation (1 RS and 2 walk-ons), so everybody should get plenty of playing time.  The question is which guy gets to start.

Albert Melchor

Chris Gamble

I could really see this looking "obvious" to some coaches in either direction.  Gamble's the better all-around player, so some people will think he's the clear choice.  Melchor's the better defender, and some coaches will virtually always start him.  In this case I may need the offense in my starting lineup, though.  I'm leaning towards Gamble primarily because of his passing.  I like that higher passing rating in the  lineup with my better scorers.  Thoughts?

I'm thinking Gamble, especially since you need the scoring.

How is Melchor the better defender? Within a point on stats, but Gamble has the better IQ. Whats the obvious thing here I'm missing? Seems like Gamble is hands down the starter.

7 points of ATH and 6 of speed.  Gamble JUST went A+ at the end of the year, and I'll take 13 points of ATH+SPD over basically 1/3 of a letter grade of IQ any day.

I agree, given your situation. I'd love to have Gamble matched up with the opposition's second string, but if you need the scoring in the starting lineup, you've got to have him there.

As an added bonus, the SimAI seems to heavily favor having the starters finish the game if at all possible, and Gamble's better FT grade will be nice there to lock things down in the final minutes.

I would play Gamble (the better PG of the two) at PG and the other guy backing up all three positions.

Fred Daniel is the PG, that's not even part of the question.  Last year he led D3 Knight in assists/game.  Or maybe was 2nd.  It was close.  He won't this year since he's going to need to score a lot more, but he's still the PG.

Oops sorry, misread something in the original post.

Gamble looks like a three point threat (SPD/PER)  to me where as Melchor is more of a two point guy ( ATH/LP).   If you don't have a three point shooter I would go with Gamble, if you do, I would choose Melgor.

They both look like pretty efficient scorers but I don't really understand how much of an effect team passing rating has on scoring.

I've always sensed that it's bigger than a lot of people give it credit for, particularly at the guard positions.

Gamble is better on offense and defense, and should start. Melchor is a fine reserve.

prior to the new engine, it wasn't a factor at all (passing's impact on the scoring potential of other team mates).

in the new engine, its a significant factor, IMO. its easy not to notice it, but especially at the 1 and 2, and especially if you aren't running a motion offense, you can really feel poor passing dragging your team fg% down. i have had a couple teams that were running triangle, that were otherwise very good, and im highly confident it was our uncharacteristic lack of passing that really held us down.

my jury is still out about the importance of passing at the 3, 4, and 5, but i would assume like most things, its some sort of gradual progression downwards, so the sf is probably at least pretty important.
