Favorite Clemens Season? Topic

Clemens sure makes for an interesting SIM character. He has 4 dominant seasons spread across three decades/teams. '86 Boston, '97/'98 Toronto, and '05 Houston. He was a 'roid aided monstrosity, but that's still a darn impressive feat. Each season has slightly different strengths and weaknesses. Was wondering if anyone thought one season just stood out over all the others?

in '05 he hit .207. when pitching is a close call then that much difference in hitting is a good tiebreaker. I'll take '05 first.
'97 is about even with '05 in pitching and you get more innings. I'll take '97 in a DH league.
'86 is less expensive and that's probably why he's the most popular. those extra HR could hurt.
'98 looks inferior because of the higher whip. I can't think of any reason to choose him ahead of the other 3.

I've actually had my best success with 1992 Roger Clemens in a $100 mil cap DH league.  1990 is a good cheap alternative if you can't fit his salary from his best 4 years.

I've always liked 2005 best, but it depends on the cap and rotation. The '05 version doesn't really have enough IP for a 4-man rotation at higher caps.
