We have up to 5 openings for a double season progressive that started with the 1967/68 & 1968/69 seasons, the first two years of the ABA. We will soon be starting season 6,1977/78 & 1978/79. .

Each season you will be able to select which of 2 seasons you want to use for each of your players (assuming they are active both seasons). This season (6) you may use 1977/78 or 1978/79, the following season (7) you will be able to use 1979/80 or 1980/81 etc.

The double season format lends itself to dramatic turnarounds. The Seattle Supersonics went from 17-65 in season 1 (league worst) to 71-11 in season 2 and the league championship (aided by the draft of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar). The Supersonics were 68-14 in season 3 and then declined to 28-54 in season 4. My Portland Trailblazers went from 66-16 in season 1 and the league title (led by Wilt Chamberlain) through a steady decline to 28-54 in season 4. The Toronto Huskies went from 19-63 in season 3 to 67-15 in season 4 (their #1 draft pick was Moses Malone).

Owners expressing interest will be given temporary access to our private forum, which contains full league rules, where a list of available players for the third season will be posted as soon as all keepers are posted, and which is where the draft will be held.

One concern expressed prior to the start of our first season was whether there would be sufficient minutes available. That proved to be a non-issue. A minimum of 19,680 minutes are required and teams averaged around 23,000 minutes. My 2 teams in season 1 had 29,000 + and 27,000 + minutes.

Rather than managing teams with recent players this is an opportunity to manage teams from an older era.

No rookies, no WW. Trades of players OK and draft picks current season only.

Drafts subsequent to the initial draft will be in inverse order of regular season record, with the tiebreaker being total point differential (points scored less points allowed) with the team with the worse point differential drafting earlier.
However, as an anti-tanking provision for the 1st round only there will be a weighted lottery among the 4 teams with the worst record for the first 4 draft positions. The same tiebreaker will be used for these positions.

Since this is a progressive league I do request that you not sign up unless you expect to be able to particpate for at least 3 seasons.

If interested please sign up below and you will be given temporary access to the private forum. You will need to post a keeper list for season 5 as soon as possible after you have reviewed the team's roster and decided which players to keep.

The first team available is the Portland Trailblazers, one of the two teams I own. The other team, the Kentucky Colonels, was left in very poor shape by a prior owner and currently has a record of 2-61 so I will keep that team and try to rehabilitate it rather than attempt to find an owner for a team in that poor a condition.

The Trailblazers currently have a record of 24-39 and will be drafting around 6th to 8th.

The Tralblazers roster for 1977/78 & 1978/79 is:

James Silas PG
Larry Wright PG
Nate Williams PG
Alex English SF
E.C.Coleman SF
Kermit Washington PF
Wil Jones PF
Maurice Lucas C
Joe Meriweather C

any of the above players can be cut.

The following players were on the prior season's roster but retired:
Donnie Freeman SG
Bobby Warren SG
Rich Jones SF

The team has an excellent nucleus in English, Lucas and Washington but is in need of some good guards, which should be available from the relatively high draft position.

The 2nd team available is the Phoenix Suns, formerly owned by jt111583 who dropped without warning from many progressive baseball and basketball leagues.

The Suns currently have a record of 17-46 and will be highly likely to be in the draft lottery for the #1 Pick (20% chance) and will likely draft 3rd in all subsequent rounds.

The Suns roster is as follows:
PG Nate Archibald
SG Louie Nelson (should probably be cut)
SF Junior Bridgeman
C   Coby Dietrick, Kim Hughes

IR
PG John Roche

Retired:
SG Ticky Burden, Archie Clark
SF Bill Bradley
PF George McGinnis, Mel Davis
C   Neal Walk

The team will need 7-8 draft picks.

This team will probably take 2-3 seasons to build into a winner as Bridgeman and Archibald are the only solid players, so some patience will be required.

Interested owners will be given access to the league's private forum. We will be posting keepers soon and I expect to have a list of 1977/78 & 1978/79 rookies in the next few days. A full available player list will be posted after all keeprs are in.

The 3rd team available is the Los Angeles Lakers, one of 2 teams currently owned by seapilots. The Lakers are currently     59-16 and lead the Pacific Division by 5 games.

The Lakers 1975/76 & 1976/77 roster is as follows:

PG    Foots Walker
SG    Gail Goodrich
C/PF Dan Issel
C/PF Bob McAdoo
C       Marvin Webster
PF     Bobby Jones
SF     Ira Terrell

Retired
PG Fred Carter
SG Jimmy Walker
SF Keith Erickson
C   Rick Roberson
PG Lee Winfield

This team will be a major contender again in the 1977/78 & 1978/79 season, as Issel, McAdoo, Webster and Bobby Jones all have excellent seasons and Foots Walker and Goodrich are significant contributors as well. McAdoo, Issel and Jones have 4 seasons left (in the double season format-7+ WIS seasons) while Walker, Goodrich and Webster have 3 seasons left. Terrell has only 1 season.

Thanks robboogi, glad to have you. the Suns are yours. I'll give you immediate access to the league private forum. I'll also be setting up a keeper thread in the private forum later today.

I'll take Portland; as a Pistons fan, not sure I can manage anything named L.A.

OK thanks  zlionsfan, happy to have you. That leaves us with only the Lakers left open. I'll give you immediate access to our private forum and copy you on the site mail just sent to league owners regarding keepers for season 6.

Another team has just been made available by an owner with 2 teams in the league.

The 4th team to be made available (but 2 have been taken already) is the Houston Mavericks. The Mavericks are currntly     30-45 with 7 games left in the season and will probably be drafting about 8th to 10th in the 1977/78 & 1978/79 draft.

The Mavericks roster for 1977/78 & 1978/79 is as follows:
SG Phil Chenier
SF John Drew, Jan Van Breda Kolff, Scott May
PF John Shumate, Ron Behagen
C   Tom Burleson

Retired
PG Fatty Taylor
SG Nate Hawthorne, Mike D'Antoni, Pat Riley
PF Stew Johnson

The team will need at least 5 draft picks.

Like the Suns and the Trailblazers (both of which have been taken) this team will be a rebuilding project. Starters are needed at both guard positions and center, although Burleson will be a contributer in the coming season. Some patience will be required to build this team into a winner.

This is the only team still available

The final owner with 2 teams has decided to make one of his teams available also. Like the Lakers it is a very good one.

The 5th team to be made available (but 2 have already been taken) is the San Francisco Warriors, who are currently 54-21, 2nd in the Pacific Division 5 games behind the Lakers.

The Warriors 1977/78 roster is as follows:
Probable Keepers (8):
PG Calvin Murphy
PG/SG Ron Lee, Brian Taylor
SF Mark Olberding, Corky Calhoun, Ed Ratleff
C   Artis Gilmore
C/PF Wes Unseld

Probable Cuts (2):
SG Ken Charles
PF Derek Dickey

Retired (2):
SG John Laskowski, Jerry Sloan

The Warriors will defintely be a major contender in season 6 led by the twin towers of Gilmore and Unseld. Calvin Murphy will be the starting PG. Olberding and Lee will be contributors while Brian Taylor will be a starting PG in seasons 7 & 8. Calhoun and Ratleff are subs.

This team is an opportunity as I believe they have a good chance to surpass the Lakers in season 6. The 2 teams will definitely still be the class of the Pacific Division for at least 1 more season.

So the 3 remaining available teams are 2 very good teams and 1 rebuilding project.

Here is an opportunity to join a good stable league. If all 3 teams are taken we will no longer have any owners with 2 teams, which is one of my goals as Commissioner.

I'll take San Francisco Warriors if still available.
