Idea to make advance scouting relevant. Topic

If it were me, I'd do one of two things;
  • Scrap it, and make the budget 165M-175M or
  • Use it in terms of correspondence. Two ways;
    • "Player X on team Y is not progressing because he should be in AA by now and is in High A. Acquire him, put him in AA, and you should see him reach potential". Not "he's a star", or "he'll make the majors if you acquire him", more a programmed awareness. More budget, more correspondence.
    • "Player X on team Y is underrated". Advance notice of DITR bumps on other teams before they happen. More budget, more correspondence.
wouldn't work.  when i'm rolling with my $0M budget and the guy with the $20M advanced scouting tries to acquire my 6th round pick, i'm going to tell him to go screw and thank him for the information.

You would never trade again because of the paranoia developed within your disturbed mind. STFU

i would trade with people who didn't have a random hardon for my worthless turds.

I'd think a mindless chattering monkey would be suspicious with "I'll trade you for your 6th rounder" as the opening statement.

So, I have an idea to make adv scouting relevant. Bare with me, as it includes changes to high school, college and IFA scouting.

1) high school, college and IFA scouting no longer affects projections. It merely gives you the number of prospects you see. The more you see, the better the chances of seeing better prospects. ( or maybe even just you see more of the better prospects)

2) advance scouting now affects projections for all players. ( high school, college, IFA's and current players. )

To prevent guys from just putting nothing in scouting, if you did not scout the player ( college seniors for example) he would not appear as a free agent for you the following season ( as is the case for unsigned college seniors).

Thoughts? Any loopholes anyone can think of? Developers, would this be possible in the sim engine, without making it a huge issue?

This also was not as complex as I thought it would be.
I like this idea.

I quite like that to (although i'd still like to add ADV impacting current ratings). The more i think about it, the less i like people spending 0 on all scouting and then having perfect current ratings for a players skill level.

BTW...yea, I like the idea too. I think there's a couple of ways to skin the cat.

I just wasn't fond of the "fuzzy current" direction the thread was moving in

+1. I like the suggestion, pretty simple, but should be mostly effective.

I just started using 0 advanced scouting very recently after studying it extensively for what seemed like years. I am on board with making it relevant. I really like deathinaholes idea a lot. I would love to get correspondence on players around the league. Actually I like the original idea on page 1 of this thread too and I could envision even a combination of the two.

If we used the first idea I would probably still have $0 advanced. If we combined it with DIAH's idea I would be tempted to boost it up to high single digits.

How about this? Similar to how the draft used to work in Madden games, you can pick players during the "prepare for amateur draft phase," and your scouts pay extra attention to them prior to draft and throughout their entire careers. For every $1m you spend on advanced scouting you can pick 2 amateurs to scout. Say you spend $10 on advanced so you pick 20 guys you like. Could be your top 20 players or maybe you have a different strategy in mind. Make a link to a page that shows all 20 of those players after the draft. Say you drafted 2 of them and 18 others are on different teams. At varying points of the season you get correspondence telling you scouts have learned more info about the players. Maybe this happens twice per season. You go to this page and the players projected ratings have changed to more accurately reflect their true projectctions. Next season you scout 20 more players now you have 40 players on this page. By the time a player is in his 4th season you've scouted him long enough that the projections you see are actually his REAL projections no matter what your advanced budget is. The advantage of advanced budget is you'll see a lot more players. More I think about maybe we combine all 3 ideas. I'm thinking it could be fun and it would definitely be relevant.

They also should make ratings of other teams' players variable depending on money spent to reflect that ML teams are constantly scouting other teams' players (esp. minor league players, but also ML players) to gain more information before trading.
