Another "Who Plays Where?" Question Topic

I'm leaning a certain way, but I'd figure I'd open this up to the forum community to get their opinions.  The available positions they can play are 2B, 3B, LF.  Have at it:

Coco Hentgen: http://whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=3151220

Brett Abbott: http://whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=3560509

Tom Hines: http://whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=4380440

Vinny Workman: http://whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=4380449

Kenta Chang: http://whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=3525122

Ricardo Velazquez: http://whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=3965539

Note that Hentgen and Abbott are already major leaguers and will stay in the ML.  Abbott has been a utility player his entire ML career.  Hines, Workman, Velazquez and Chang have been minor leaguers.

Hentgen 2....the rest get rid of they arent major league bats for 3b or LF...

Hines' bat isnt good enough?

And that's why I offered the option of someone else at 2b and maybe Hentgen in LF.

Don't know why you bothered listing 2B with Hentgen here. He is building a HOF resume at 2B.
I love guys like Abbott as utility players.
Hines is the best option at 3B, but his bat is still pretty weak for the position.
Workman and Valezquez look like utility players that get dumped as soon as they want more than 400k.
Chang looks like a career AAA player.
You have to find a better bat for LF to be competitive.

I hate players like this.. To often guys like this are drafted early due to higher OVR ratings.. They're classic trade rape players..  I get soo many trade offers with crap sandwiches like this..

I assume Will is talking about Hines. Hines will likely play for 10+ teams by the time hes done, all new owners who did not know any better.

Hentgen is a nice player who can be a subpar defender at 2B or a GG COF.  Maybe an opiton at 3B if you can find a better 2B glove and a better LF bat.

Abbott is the kind of 2B I like in the AL batting 9th.  Good glove, and just enough hitting ability and speed to make his glove usable.  Batting S helps, too.

Hines could be a passable 3B if you've got a lineup where your 3B is batting in the bottom third of the order.  Maybe 6th.  If you are hittin him above 6th, you're in trouble.

Workman is like Hines, only with a better glove and a worse bat for 3B.  Anything higher than 8th and you're in trouble.  Decent enough bench player with that eye.

Chang is a bench player, if you're into the PR and defensive replacement thing.  I might hesitate carrying him in the NL, as he's a waste of a PHer.

Velazquez is the kind of player I almost always have on my bench, but he shouldn't get more than a few dozen ABs, mostly resting your starting MIF/CF vs. lefties.

In short, I think you could get some solid defensive contributions and passable offensive output from Hentgen in LF, Abbott at 2B, and Hines at 3B.... assuming you have enough at your other positions to have Abbott and Hines batting in the 7-8-9 range.

Unless you're right up against the cap, I might try to land a bat to play LF (not typically hard) and move Hentgen in to 3B where he will still be a "plus" defender, but you'll have someone with a little more to offer at the plate than Hines.

Hentgen is not a suBpar 2B, and I would keep him there unless you find no other credible options for LF. Abbott would be my center fielder on most teams, but I assume you have that taken care of. If you cannot find a LFer who hits better than Hentgen, Abbott at 2B would give you awesome defense at two positions (with Hentgen in LF) and will hit/run enough to keep his spot in the lineup. Hines could play 3B well enough, not everyone needs to be a star.

Hentgen's a stud 2B like everyone else agrees.

Hines' glove carries his bat a little at 3B; he's a legitimate starter there, maybe 20th best in a typical world?  I would certainly arb him the first year, at least.

I like Abbott on the bench but not as a starter; Defensive replacement/PR is a useful 25th man.  Velazquez I love; he's your defensive replacement SS and his bat isn't hopeless against LHP, so you could even platoon him or at least rest your starter gainst the occasional LHP.

I would never carry anyone like Workman or Chang on my bench.

Agree that you should go get a real LF.
