Pittsburg State

I'm starting of next season with 6 open schollies.  IQ's a highest in Motion and Man.

It looks like (correct me if I'm wrong) my 6 sophomores have decent ath/spd/def ratings.

My questions are:

Should I change practice minutes to Fastbreak/Press this season while still running Motion/Man?

My Stamina for the sophomores are fairly low as this point, so I'm going to have to recruit high STA guys.  Am I right in regards to the low STA in my JR-Class-to-be?

My defense is, well to be nice, is average at best. Recruit DEF/STA and have ATH/SPD as a close second in what I'm recruiting?

Also, anything that will be helpful is always appreciated.

Thanks

Yes you should change practice minutes. Some coaches say go with 15/10, so 15 in FB/Press and 10 in Motion/Man, but I prefer going a full 25 or even 30 practice minutes in your new system to get players learning it so next season your returning vets will be competent. Take the losses this year for future gains, if not, then do the 15/10 method.

Hopefully some of those STA's will improve still, those 65/64 STA will kill you in your new system. They basically will play less then 10 minutes a game.

I would recruit ATH/SPD and STA before DEF. In a Press defense, the DEF rating helps, but the ATH/SPD is more important (slightly). I would recruit all 4 if I were you as they all are really, really important in what you're going to do.

I haven't ran a Fastbreak, but I've ran a FCP at D3. Focus on ATH/SPD/STA/DEF mostly and you'll be alright. Best of luck.

If you're committed to changing your offense and defense, then put 20+ minutes into both FB and Press immediately. DO NOT do that 15/10 split described above.

Right.

If you're committed, you are just going to have to be OK with taking yourlumps for a couple seasons.  There's no reason to continue practicing your current O/D.  I would actually think about 25-30 min in both FB and press.
