How did I lose this game so badly? Topic

All right, so I'm okay with the fact that I lost this game, I mean, my team has six freshmen and four sophomores and only one senior and the one junior on the team is godawful.  But we've kept it close against some great teams this season and even beat a couple of solid teams as well.  I mean, we only lost to the #1 team in the nation by ten points and had them scared up until late in the second half.

So how did we lose to this sim-coached conference foe by nearly 30?

I believe there's gotta be a reasonable explanation, I just can't find it on my own.

Why were you playing uptempo here? Look at the stamina of his starters, or your starters, and the look at the fatigue in the play by play, especially in the latter part of the first half when things crumbled for you.

I didn't play uptempo in the first half, I have it set to switch the tempo if losing, so it switched to uptempo in the second half... When we were already down by 21.

Without having more information, I can see 3 possible major factors for the bad loss. The most obvious reason for the loss is your IQ's on "O" & "D" are terrible because of your youth. His are very good. He executed better than you on both ends and won all statistical categories. You might consider putting more practice time into .team "O" & "D". Obviously you had your worst shooting night of  the year.

Another huge mistake alot of coaches make is checking the box for playing subs more if you get way behind. You were down 21 at the half.  If you had that box checked the game was over. If that box is checked you can never make a comeback if you get down big. Look at your box score. All your subs but one had more minutes than your starters. You might not have won, but the score could have been alot closer.

Regardless, your stamina was still a big issue ...

Perhaps, but we actually have better stamina overall and in most of the individual matchups than St. Norbert had, the lone exception being my starting center, Joshua Brooks.

And with the high potentials I have across the board in most of these young kids, I really can't afford to put more time than the recommended minimum of 20 minutes into my Off/Def IQ's.

I've beaten teams with better stamina before with the exact same settings and running at a normal tempo.  I don't care about the second half really, what I"m most confused about is how we got brutalized in the first half.  To be honest I think we may have stood a better chance if we had run uptempo in the second half, because Bejarana and Oyola may have turn up their defense more efficiently.

the other team had 2 seniors and 8 juniors...experience is most likely the key factor here.

True, dac.  I didn't really keep that in mind.  IQ could have been a major factor here.  Still trying to figure out how Bejarano got shut down though.  I know he has low ath for a big man, but he was going up against a guy with 8 ath.  That and Bejarano may be a sophomore, but he's A-/A- in IQ.

I know that I probably SHOULD have lost this game and that I probably could have gameplanned slightly better, but I'm still trying to figure out how I lost by nearly thirty points and especially how they crushed me in the first half.

This team has had plenty of defensive issues all season, but offensively we've only been shut down once, by a *very* good Chicago team.

Look at the stamina of the starters; overall isn't that relevant.

The first half is where you had the stamina issues. I wonder ... Did you have a couple guys get in foul trouble early, get held out, and mess up your substitution patterns, leading to fatigue?

I actually hadn't looked that closely at the PBP.  You're actually right about that.  My starting guards each got into foul trouble within the first three minutes of the game, which almost definitely messed with the sub patterns and probably had some backups playing more time than they're used to seeing... Which may mean I had lower quality players on the court playing for longer periods of time.  That would make a lot of sense, especially since my backcourt's depth isn't too great because I use a couple of guards to backup my SF as well.

Yep. Shay and oyola picked up two very quick fouls. You were up 14 - 6 when shay and oyola went out. You got out scored 39-12 and had major fatigue issues in the period until they played again with about five minutes left in the half.

I always look at the pbp - you might want to set your guards to "aggressive" on fouls, given the depth.
