Keeping Pitching Prospects Healthy Topic

I'm almost 15 seasons in, and have a ridiculous time keeping pitching prospects healthy.  Just about every pitcher I've taken in the first round or signed internationally has blown out.  In the minors I always have them pitch at 100% durability.  I shut them down for their last 3-4 starts of the season.  I set pitch limits at what HBD recommends.  What am I doing wrong, is it just bad luck?

Are there other things out there that people do to keep their pitching prospects healthy?  Go to 6 man rotations in the minors?  Tandem pitching staffs?  Only throw 50 pitches a start?

Thanks.

Medical and training.  Max them out to $20m.

Youve budgeted well in training and medical.  Maybe bad luck, or the pitchers themselves had very low health ratings.

I significantly lower the pitch counts. If a guy has 65 stamina, hes only going to do 60-65 for me. If he has 80, hes doing 75-80.

I do similar things with my real big bats. I play them at DH in the minors.

I don't have this problem, and I use simmy's recs for my minor league pitching prospects.  My guess is you've been hit by some bad luck.

It's all relevant.   When you lose a tryout camp pitcher to a 220 day injury, it doesn't register.   When you lose a former 3rd overall pick to a 48 day injury, you feel like you just had a dozen of those last season(which you did but it was to non-prospects).   Overall, injuries are far more infrequent in HBD than real life.   If you have your training and medical high while making sure pitchers aren't throwing fatigued, you're doing all you can.   It's just going to happen.

From my former team, overall #1:   Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Jalal Darling   Two injuries with 99 health and 20m in training/medical.   Drove me insane.

I have a question. I just picked up a huge relief pitching prospect and put him in AAA. He last pitched 8-29 AM and has been at 0 (0) Health ever since. He just isn't recovering. Is this because he hit zero and is now taking time to recover? I've never seen this before.

Same here.  I just use sim recs for minor leagues.  Never had a problem.  Maybe have to shuffle things if I see a glaring problem, but it's never been a real issue.

He has 28 stamina and you're regularly pitching him 40+ pitches. He should be at 20-25 or thereabouts. He also pitched 46 pitches at 28%. And he only has 36 durability. It might take him a few cycles to catch back up and you should probably put him on rest or inactivate him until he does.

^^^^^^
Yep.  Don't pitch him fatigued and a guy with that STM/DUR combo probably needs a lower PC.

And he also should have been played at Low A, so that you don't run the risk of him stagnating if you want to let him develop in the minors for a few seasons and so he can get the best coaching possible (since it looks like you may have missed coach hiring, and your best pitching coach in the minors is in Low A).

I avoid pitching him at 28 stamina by setting my auto rest dont I? I think its at 80 or something. Not sure why he was played so brutally unless no one else was available or something. Maybe i'll add some B pitchers to the staff.

Why do you say I missed coach hiring? LOL. I thought I had good pitching coaches and my AA guy was the best place for him to develop. Isn't it just Pitching skill and Working with the Youth skill?

Edit: i mean i put him in AAA because the coach is good. I also thought with his current ratings he could hang at that level.

I do see my bullpen is exausted, I'll add some pitching tonight so these guys aren't overworked.

Thanks
