Should I run Uptempo? Topic

In addition to what has been discussed above, there are those that believe that uptempo affects offensive quality, i.e. points per possession.  I am undecided but tend to believe it does not.  Various people claim to have analyzed it and come up with a conclusion one way or another, but I haven't seen any hard numbers.  The WIS support also says that it does not (in many support tickets), but they have been wrong before.

I'm pretty sure I have seen cbg discuss it and give some numbers...if Jeff thinks it happens I am inclined to believe him

At one point I had the notion that uptempo resulted in shot-quality being more of a crapshoot.  I don't know if it does or doesn't, but after really spotty results I stopped using it almost entirely.

Uptempo (and slow down) makes your offense less efficient than if you were running normal tempo.  Think about it, if you're in uptempo, you're rushing a shot, if you're in slowdown, you're waiting until the end of the shot clock to shoot.  if you're in normal tempo however, you are just taking a shot in the flow of the offense.

If your tempo doesn't affect your oppenents fatigue, I see basically no reason to play uptempo (I mean who's bench is better than their starters?).  Can anyone shed some light on this?

If nothing else, if you have superior depth of talent, increasing the number of distinct events in the game decreases the level of randomness; statistically, there would be a greater chane that a random fluctuation would lead to a bad end in a game with less posessions than in one with more when facing that inferior team - all other things being equal.
