Favorite School and the Advantages? Topic

Alright quick question for ya. So I'm at a B prestige school and there is a 5 star recruit that has me listed as their favorite school. He's within 150 miles and would be a huge get. Problem is he's most likely going to have A+ or A schools going after him. Normally I wouldn't even try to mingle with them , but with me being his favorite school does it give me a chance? How much advantage is it? Would it be worth it or would I be wasting my money?

i dont think anyone really knows, its pretty hard to tell the difference between 5% and 10% or 5% and 20% advantage even. i think people generally agree, it doesn't seem to be that big of a factor (i just assume its like 10% when the other school has it, figuring thats a fairly safe bet, and roughly discount it when i have it). the other problem is, favorite school comes into play so rarely in battles, because its not tied to the region (which is dumb), there really is not much evidence about it floating around.

given that you cant really rely on it for much, if anything, i would not let it be a big factor in your decision. sounds like you definitely would not pursue the recruit if he was not your favorite, so you probably shouldnt do it. however, it does present an opportunity to get a feel for the value of favorite school, which could be useful, so you might want to try it for that reason.

IMO if he is a good 5 star you have 0% chance unless you have a lot of scholarships open. Are you in a BCS conference with postseason money? If not, you have even less chance. I was at B- Alabama once upon a time and the #1 center prospect in the country was 10 miles from my campus and I was his favorite school. I took 4 walk-ons that season... but I'm only a mediocre high level D 1 recruiter, so YMMV.

Unless Duke and UNC have 1, maybe 2 openings apiece I'd let it go.
