Mo. Valley / Ivy League Topic

Several of us are moving towards lower DI in Allen in hopes of building a conference or two up to compete with some of the big boys. Some of us are from Mid-Missouri and are "Valley Fans" so to speak, in that we have attended some of the schools, Mizz St, SIU, Ill St, etc.

We know there can't be reserved teams, however, in an attempt to make this as much fun as possible, we would like to reserve certain teams amongst ourselves for those who speak up and would like that team.

We are trying to fill the Valley and have more coaches with an interest in this project than there are teams. We also have a coach or 2 allready in the Ivy League who are happy there and would like to see the East division of that very competetive conference filled. So.... if you have a preferred team and are in a position to join us in the next 2-3 seasons,,, speak up if you have a preference. If you'd just like a team and don't care where... let us know that as well.

so far we have,

Mo. Valley

onepeat - SIU grad Sinatra - Ill. St Grad

Elmo - Mizz ST ? RCoffey - Mizz St ?

(they can indian leg wrestle for SMSU) .. I think the loser gets it

smalls312 - Wichita St.

Mizz77 - Creighton ? (prolly hardest to get to & I don't really care to much)

Reinsel - ? JTT - ?

Ivy East

Reinsel - ? JTT - ?

*Edit, also as Cyben mentions below, eventually we hope to do a friendly Valley/Ivy challenge as well.

mizzou77,

Just wanted to put myself out there for the Wichita St. Job. I'm the friend that j_corvai referred to for the position. I grew up locally within 30 miles of Wichita, so it is definitely something that I have been working towards for the past 12 seasons. I believe that there is not doubt that I'll be qualified for this position this year and would appreciate having every chance to get this coaching job in D1.

Well...I am a lifer at Northern Iowa, so whom ever plays at the MVC will be playing me for a long time.

I was luckey enought to be a part of the architectural design team for the McLeod Center arena at Northern Iowa where the RL team plays now, so I have become a follower of the RL team, therefore a fan of the WIS N. Iowa.

My onepeat alias has a better shot at SIU than my main id though I am still a couple of years away...just finishing my second year in the Gulf South. Looks like kmfloyd may stay put at UMF afterall.

Don't forget, Ivy just sent 5 to the NT and one to the PIT...so there will be a nice bounty of recruiting cash.

Once we get these two filled, how would you guys feel about setting up a conference challenge of some sort?

I'd say it's on like donkey kong.

beer thirty? is that the fabled generically branded "beer-30" of yore?
2/7/2009 1:13 PM
are you guys qualified for any jobs?

RC doesn't appear to be qualified for any Valley jobs

I am qualified for every DI open but Buffalo (B-) and Depaul.

I have applied to Creighton

Onepeat didn't qualify for any D1 jobs. Another good season should open up something...hopefully, a couple will get me to the Valley.

To improve my chances, I'm trying to move up kmfloyd to the GLVC.

I'm not qualified for any Valley jobs, but I've only been at DII for a season. I am qualified for a few DI jobs, but I'd be better off putting together a couple of decent seasons at my current job, correct?
2/13/2009 9:24 AM
yup, I had 4 seasons I believe at Holy Family, and was qualified for everything available except the 2 jobs I mentioned above,,, Creighton dropped from a C+ to a C... not sure if I would have been a long-shot then or not,,, it's possible.

Actually, my bad, looks like I have 5 seasons at DII with 132 wins and 2 E8's in the last 4 seasons... I don't think that it takes that much to get to the valley but probably does to get to Creighton. I would think 100 wins and a couple 2nd rounds in the last 3-4 seasons would land anything you'd want in the Valley.

The formula I have seen that seems to work is 100 wins/pts.

plus some mild NT success.

plus decent loyalty.

DII wins = 1 point

DIII wins = about 1/2 a point.

Elmore686 has 160 DIII = 80 and 25 DII = 105pts. with a 2nd round last season. I would think another 20 wins and a NT appearance might be enough,,, the loyalty may be the only knock then.

The Valley is not an entry level conference right now, so it's a little harder to jump up to, however if you take an entry DI job someplace,,, it will take 3-4 more seasons for sure then to recover from the loyalty hit.

I had hoped 2-3 of you guys would get lucky and be qualified this season,,, but we'll get there.

Everything is a step backwards for me. Looks like I'll be staying at Bucknell. Won't somebody please join us?
