Promoting too quick? Topic

is it possible to promote a player too quickly? Would a promotion too quick ruin his ratings?

the bigger danger is wasting his pre-arb/pre-free agency years in the big leagues when he is not yet ready for that level of play.

Maybe be means promoting a player through the minors two quick.

Is it bad to start a stud IFA or early first round pick in AA if the coaches are way better at that level?

I think that promoting a player to the majors too early stunts his development, especially if the player is not ready to compete at the ML level. Also, there are ratings "bumps" which happen with each promotion, so if you skip levels, or start in AA, or promote too early, you miss out on those "bonus" ratings bumps

I thought I had read that ratings "bumps" actually don't occur, you are just updated on his current ratings at that point in time instead of the usual every 30 game regular season update.

say you've got an 18 year old draftee w/ great projections, but is still too raw to play in the upper minors, however you place him in AAA or the majors anyways, and play him every day. Even though he gets his brains beat in, will he progress as normal since he's playing everyday, or will his makeup suffer, or some other stunt in his development?

in other words, does having relative success at a level improve his rate of development, or does success or failure have little to do with, he'll improve at the same rate provided that he's getting playing time at the same rate?

I try only to promote my best prospects to levels where they will be starters. If you promote a prospect to a level where there is a more advanced player at his position, it could stunt his development if he just sits on the bench. You want your stud prospects to be playing every day to maximize their development.

If you promote a kid too fast you've got to make sure he's paired with a laid-back bro who can teach him there's more to life than work.

i usually start my high draft picks and stud IFA's in HiA, i have never had a problem with stagnated growth, if they can compete at the level they'll be fine

drisco13 is right about the promotion bonus
