Just wondering if there is a purpose to offering this?

It will make the player more likely to sign with you.

Thanks. Does the player assign a dollar value to the no trade - i.e. he will take a $3.5 deal with a no trade or a $3.75 deal without the no trade?

not sure. but it's probably more of a:

team a is offering $3.5 mil but no trade clause

team b is offering $3.5 mil with a no trade clause

the player will probably sign with team b

situation

There probably is an internal dollar value, but nobody knows what it actually is.

Kind of like how adding a player option to a contract offer adds positive value and a team option adds negative value from the players point of view.
