Do I need to offer the pick's ridiculous demands to qualify for type D compensation, or do I just need to offer the slot level? It seems to me like I need to offer the demanded level, and that seems stupid

Forget about it. I figured it out, and I need to offer the initial demand, and have it refused. I wonder if this is how it works in RL. Or is it the refusal of a slot level offer that triggers a type D comp pick in real life?

i think in RL you just have to make a slot level offer, or else any draftee could just ask for the moon and a team would have to meet that request (in order to qualify for comp picks)

think about if the Nats had not me Strasburg initial contract demands and him going back into the draft while the Nats get nothing

I don't think you have to offer anything to get compensation IRL.

The negotiation process in RL is a little more sophisticated..............

no i'm pretty sure a formal offer must be made

after the 1996 amatuer draft Travis Lee and Matt White were declared free agents because they weren't tendered a contract within 15 days of the draft

I think its just a standard Minor League contract that must be tendered.

For example:

The source said that the Nats have had an ongoing dialogue with Strasburg's adviser, Scott Boras, but have made no offer other than the mandatory minor league tender that all clubs must make to their picks within 10 days of the draft. That is a standard minor league deal that pays the player $1,000 per month but does not include any bonus money.
