I think Mid60's is pushing the low limit for a starter. You have to figure 15-16 pitches an inning, so he wouldnt get past 4.

I have had some success getting 100-120 IP, pretty high leverage and quality, out of guys like this as Setup A. Matt Hogan is an example, Jorge Alvarez is another.

i've been using Sal Floyd as a starter and he's on pace for 165 very effective IP with 52/30 STA/DUR.

as long as your guy isn't giving up too many baserunners, i'd bet you could coax 150+ IP out of him as a starter. he's probably good for 120 as a Setup A, but they will likely be higher leverage.

it really just depends on what needs more help- your rotation or pen. i'd be compelled to stick him in your pen since his P1 and P1 are easily his best pitches.

I have tried to make a couple of guys like this into SPs, with mixed success.

If you give him an 80 PC average, you can get 30-32 starts. Given his control, you may be able to get 140-160 IP out of him that way.

Reagan Knoblauch had a 53 Stam/ 31 Dur last season and went 149.1 IP over 33 starts. I say if you want him to start, go for it. 80-ish PC is about right (I think I went 85 with him last season).

Use him as yuour closer. I have a guy similar to him named Mac Pan . Very similar player, possibly my worlds best closer, and what that dur/stam, you can use him 20-25 pitches almost every day. He will be dominant.

This guy is good, you want him to pitch as much as possible.

As mentioned above, I'd make him a setup A, 25/30 PC. You'll get 110-120 very important innings out of him.

If you have a good bullpen already, then I'd make him a starter with a 75 Pitch count and I think you'll get 150IP out of him.

If you make him a closer, you will limit the number of innings he will pitch

i'm with JP- closer is totally pointless for HBD because you end up with great pitchers throwing < 50% of their IP capacity.

I used him as a setup A guy last season, I have a whole in my rotation , and I could use him as my 5th starter, and sign a FA RP. or keep him as setup A , and sign a 5th SP, just wanted to see what kind of results other got with similar guys.

One of my SP is 57sta/32dur, finish the season with 170IP in 30 starts, about 5.5 IP per start.

He looks like he's make a darn good LRA at the moment. I can't see his projections. Only down side seems to be that he might give up a lot of HRs.

I would make him a closer and set him to start in the eighth inning. If you have decent starting pitchers as is, then he will really benefit your team in that role.
10/3/2009 6:54 PM
still gonna waste a bunch of IP that way.

if you set him as setup A without designating a closer, he'll still get the lion's share of the save opportunities. he just wont have half of his IP go to waste that could be used in setup situations.

Start him out in long relief, then use him as a spot starter when/if you need five shutdown innings. Though the Setup A suggestion isn't bad either. The only problem is that because of his 27 endurance rating, he's going to get tired by midseason if you're using him every other game.
