Fastbreak...Man to Man Topic

I just moved to D1 Naismith at Siena. In DII I took over a team that ran the Traingle. I never could seem to get that team to its potential. Siena runs the Triangle/Man. I have done fine with a Man Defense in the past. Thinking about keeping the Man D and running Fastbreak O. Anyone ever run that combination before?

I got the same itch a few seasons back and decided to pickup a D2 team to try it out. Look at my NFU team to see the results so far. The team had a lot of open scholarships and nothing of note when I took it over. I have to say, I'm ok with it so far. If you can get the Ath/Spd/D/Sta, you can kind of slide on LP/Per.

Also, just had the conference awards this morning, 4 guys on the 1st team, 2 guys on the 2nd team and Parsons didn't make the top 3, but probably could have. It can definitely produce some crazy numbers. But you'll also get bitten 1x or 2x a season. I'm just hoping the flaws don't show up in the post season.

With the RNG can't you say that about every offense and defense?

Go with it. FB/Man is fine.

since the FB is a "risk-reward" offense, i think it tends to produce more "great" games and more "horrible" games, relative to your talent level. so, however many times you think the average team gets "bitten" add a couple to that for the FB. and its probably fair to say that it will produce one or two upsets that you may not have gotten with other offenses.

i would say to a lesser degree the same is true for a press DE. whihc makes FB'pr really vulnerable.

at least thats the way i see it.

sidenote: despite all my bellyachin about how inferior the FB is, the tarkNT had 3 FB teams in the Elite8, 2 in the Final4 and one in the champ game

Personally, I don't think the fb is a good offense for a low DI team. It definitely requires superior sp/ath, and that's very difficult to do for a low DI team. Personally, I think it's a more inconsistent and overall slightly inferior offense to boot.

Running it with a high prestige DII/DIII program works much better, since you can definitely put together teams that outclass your opponents in sp/ath. But I wouldn't do it at Siena if I were you.

Lower D1 would probably be a nightmare. You'd definitely want to have a prestige advantage.

This is likely the hardest combination to succeed with, because you're looking for the 3 most critical ratings. Spd / Ath / D. Certain O/D sets allow you to skimp on one or the other. All 3 are a must for this setup.

The plus side seems to be, that if you can put it together, you can ravage people. I think an A- or better program could really create something special with this setup.

Hardest to setup, most successful overall? Maybe.
