I have a C who us in final year of contract. He is asking for $5,266,666 per for 3 years for total of 15,799,998.

I offered a $4m bonus and 3 years at $4m for total pkg of $16m. I added team option.

He rejected saying offer was too low.

It is my understanding that player looks at total pkg/years. Does team option make total pkg lower?

try adding a 4th year with the option. he wants a 3 yr contract w/ no team option.

Yes, a team option adds negative value to the contract from the players point of view. $3m of the final seasons contract is not guaranteed.

If you change that team option to a mutual option he will most likely take it.
