I took over Army and it was a C- prestige. In my first year I improved on wins, rpi and conference wins. Now at the roll, I drop to a D+. How does this work? I was under teh understanding, as long as you maintain a certain level, you can not drop. Obviously that is not the case.

Anyone care to explain how/why I would have taken a hit here?

Thanks,

Beef

Prestige is weird like that sometimes... Normally a sim runs a good program into the ground. Thus the season 16 drop in prestige after having a better year.

You should have stayed a C- in my opinion... But like I said, if there wasnt a phantom drop in season 16, you would be running a C prestige program.

I would guess it's because the Season 14 NT appearance is now outside the 4 season prestige window.

That is exactly it.

Also, the drop in season 16 was because the NT season was weighted less since it was further away.

The season 16 drop was because the season 12 NT appearance was outside of the 4 season windown not because the the season 14 appearanec was weighted less. They went from 2 NT appearances in 4 seasons to 1.

That makes sense I guess. I forgot about the 4 year window, but I didn't think that would override the improvment.

Thanks guys

Its not an improvement if you look at it correctly.

You should always be comparing the latest season with the "one that drops off." According to the Prestige logic, you lost a 22-8 NT season and replaced it with a 13-15 record.

Many coaches make the same mistake and try to compare their last 2 seasons.

This is not entirely true. I can show you how just looking at the last 4 season record and post season performance doesn't explain prestige rise or fall.

Elite 8, Final Four, 1st Rd NT, Sweet 16 = A+ Prestige

next season we go back to Elite 8 so now:
Elite 8, Elite 8, Final Four, 1st rd NT = A Prestige we replace a Sweet 16 18-13 season with an Elite 8 22-10 season and prestige went down.

2 seasons down the road:
Sweet 16, Sweet 16, Elite 8, Elite 8 = A+ Prestige we replaced a Final Four with a Sweet 16 in the 4 year window and our prestige went back up to A+.

The year we went to the Elite 8 and our prestige went down the only thing that stands out is we ended the season unranked although we went to the Elite 8.

baseline prestige and conference prestige are also factors

The further you are away from your baseline, the more easily prestige will move (in either direction).

The performance of your conference mates also impacts your prestige.

One correction...the further you are away from your baseline, the more easily it will move TOWARDS the baseline and the more difficult it will be to move AWAY from your baseline. This works regardless of which side of your baseline you are on.

I didn't say it correctly in the first reply.

Baseline? What is this?
10/7/2009 5:46 PM
Baseline is the "original" prestige of each school from season 1. Every school does not have the same baseline.

Baseline prestige becomes fairly irreverent the better the conference is. That was the feeling I got when we built the Big Sky into a Top Conference in Phelan.

did your job status stay at meeting expectations? I think that is what continued okay performance protects for first few years

Yes, I remain at "Meeting expectations" as well as having a spotless rep.
