Which D1 SG prospect is better? Topic

Recruit 1 has:
ATH 45 (medium potential)
SPD 75 (high potential)
WE 35
GPA 3.5
Distance: 690
Stars: 0

Recruit 2 has:
ATH 75 (high potential)
SPD 65 (medium potential)
WE 65
GPA 3.2
Distance: 20
Stars: 2

if all other attributes were equal (hypothetically), which recruit would be better? and how close is it? who should i go for? my team has a C- prestige and is kind of floundering in a transitional season (10-9, rpi 144)

I would go with recruit 2 because of the higher WE and with that distance you will be able to recruit him harder for less money. Just my opinion.

my instincts and my current prospect rating formula have him being better too...i'm just new to d1 and i'm not sure if his relatively low speed is suicide.

Its not even remotely close.

#2, ath > spd in SG, WAAAAAAY closer, and much better WE

1 - easy, for me. Would much rather have the 95+, than 75-80 speed. That is a dealbreaker for me at D1.

though distance is a big factor, i would find somebody else closer...

#2 he will end as 95+ ath and 75+ spd its not even a close decision and his distance will allow you to have extra cash for others or next season. Now this is all other rating being equal.

But you would rather have 50-65 Ath in a DI SG?

Not only would I prefer #2 strictly on merits, but to have a guy who's 690 miles away as a primary target is simply not good strategy.

Being a C- prestige team with a long-distance recruit considering you is putting a target on your back and asking someone to come in and take him from you.

#2

#2 is the obvious choice. Close, good athleticism. If it were a PG, i'd say #1.

#2 hands down. The proximity will make sure you will likely get him and WE means something as well. He isn't 2 stars for nothing.

#2. While I agree with others that 75 is a bit slower than I would like for an SG, the ATH and distance advantage makes up for that. Also, agree with dalter's point that going after a guy that's 690 miles away with a C- prestige is just asking for trouble.

Agreed. Although I need a lot more info to know if the kid is even recruitable or worth the money he would cost you being further away.

690 miles from Connecticut is too close to lots of other schools. With 1 open scholarship, if player #1 is worth anything at all, you can't get him. Recruit 2 will end up with 78 speed, and with his 95 ath you can set him to -1 and drive all day to the hoop. At low DI, I say you take what you can get.
