Clarence Hayes

Vance Walton

Tough call. Hayes is the better all around player. I like Waltons speed,power, eye though.

I'm not sure it's as tough of a call as knuckle seems to think it is. I'd take Walton unless you absolutely need the y bat. And even then I'd probably go Walton. But for god's sake, let the boy run.

I don't think this is close at all. When you have pop and speed like that you use it.

go with Walton.

Hayes carries alot of trade value when you have a guy like Walton also.

Thanks guys, the only thing that concerned me was Waltons low (19) contact. and the NL in Clemens* contains more nuetral/pitching parks.

But taking this a step further;

I have Manuel Perez playing in LF. I have no problems with Perez and his speed, eye, contact and run a game average but would

Vance Walton in LF and Clarence Hayes in RF be better than
Manuel Perez in LF and Walton in RF

or maybe keep them all and rotate?

The owner before me was a much better drafter than I have been.

if you can use them in rotation that might be your best bet. Let Hayes and Perez Start and use Walton as your sub for both. He could easily sub for Perez in the leadoff spot and Hayes at what ever spot he bats in the order. To go a couple steps further start Hayes against righties and Walton against ies. You can also use Walton to rest your 1st baseman and DH when you play your interleague games.

Seeing Perez only reinforces my opinion that Walton is the choice. You don't seem to mind letting guys run and the two of them are a very potent combo.

Depending on the rest of your bench and your plan with respect to arb/$/budgeting down the line, Hayes would be a very nice 4th OF/PH/1B for you, but truth be told you can probably get a fair amount for him in trade. I might recommend giving that a shot to see if you can fill a hole at a starting position (or get a good arm) rather than have his talent in a reserve role.

Since I feel contact is important and I also value defense it was a tough call for me. He's a little much as a RF I guess. I think hit and run is a nice alternative to SBs. They both are platoon candidates.
